"In October, I had my deck replaced, my front porch replaced and added a patio in the backyard by Haka Construction. Pete was great to work with . The bid was very thorough, and detailed ; and payment schedule was spelled out in contract. The workers were here everyday early in the AM and worked till sundown. If Pete was not available on site, he was immediate to respond to phone-calls and texts, to answer any questions or concerns I had. The entire job was completed in 7 working days. They dud a wonderful job and I love my new deck and stamped concrete patios. I canâ t wait till Spring ,,so we can enjoy them . I highly recommend Haka Construction"

"Great work, good crew, fair price. House looks better than ever with our new deck cover, and has extended its seasonal use. Matched existing stucco, two-tone paint, gutters, and shingles so that it looks like it was part of the original home. They even went a step further to straighten and place foundation footers on our sagging deck stairs into the yard. An unlucky hammer drop and bounce accidently broke one pane of the back sliding door glass, but they swept into action to clean the area and keep it safe, ordered and paid for a brand new replacement sliding door with the original door vendor (not just some random or cheap door or pane replacement). Their response showed considerable honor and honesty. I would (and will) use them again for any home construction, deck or sunroom project!!"

"Wow. this review request just popped up after 7 years. We had an awning cover made in 2012 for our patio that is 10 by 20 that is supported by 15 metal rods where they made tie down flaps with grommets on both sides. The awning is removed for the winter each year. I do not remember the installers name but he showed me how to best reinstall the cover and make it tight each spring. The awning still looks great after 7 summers."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

Awnings offer a variety of materials to choose from, each of which has its own benefits. Cotton is a lower-cost option that’s also more eco-friendly because it’s made from natural materials, while acrylic-coated polyester and vinyl offer better durability against harsh weather. Fiberglass and metal are also resilient to weather, although metal can be vulnerable to corrosion without protective sealant. Ultimately, you’ll need to consider your climate and your budget in deciding the best material for your awning.

Yes, you can install an awning yourself, and it can be an excellent DIY project with immediate benefits. This is most feasible for smaller, pre-assembled units. However, awnings are often heavy and awkward for one person to handle, so you should always have at least one helper. If you have difficulty lifting heavy objects, professional installation is recommended to ensure proper mounting and durability.

Retractable awnings offer numerous advantages for homeowners, including protecting your outdoor furniture against the elements. It can also help keep your deck in better shape since it adds a layer of protection against sun and precipitation.

The average cost to build a pergola ranges from $2,200 to $6,400, whereas the average cost of an awning ranges from $1,400 to $4,400, meaning that an awning tends to be less expensive to build or install than a pergola. Ultimately, the less expensive option depends on a few factors, including size, quality of materials used, and location.

To ensure the installation process goes smoothly, it's wise to ask a potential pro several questions. Key topics to cover include:

  • Licensing and Insurance: Do you have a professional license and insurance to perform this work? This is crucial as installing an awning into a home's exterior can be a complex job.

  • Cost Estimate: What was the price of similar jobs you've completed? Awning installation costs can vary based on size, design, and location, so this helps establish a general price range.

  • Project Timeline: How long will this project take to complete? Getting an estimated timeline provides peace of mind, even though unforeseen hurdles can occur.

  • Building Permits: Will I need a building permit for this project, and who is responsible for obtaining it? An experienced local contractor will be knowledgeable about local rules and regulations.

  • References and Portfolio: Do you have references from previous clients or photos of completed projects? Speaking with past clients and seeing previous work can give you insight into their experience and the quality of their work.
