Turf Master Sod Farm is a family owned and operated Sod production business with locations in Colorado and Wyoming. We take pride in offering you a wide variety of Low water use specialty grasses as well as bluegrass and fescues. Turf Master is especially proud of the custom blends we’ve created to thrive in our harsh, arid climate. We are honored to have served both residential and commercial clients in Colorado, Wyoming, western Nebraska, eastern Utah, southern Montana and the Dakotas for over 40 years and look forward to continuing to serve our community by providing high quality, environmentally friendly sod for generations to come. Wyoming Location: 324 Ayers Rd. Wheatland, WY 82201; (866) 493-8311

"The services, from the sales rep Frank, (who cussed in front of my 3 year old, failed to respond to messages and walked off the job), to the unresponsive management and unreturned phone calls after an incomplete job leaves us without thousands of dollars and a horrible looking lawn. They did not finish the job nor offer to remediate, only stating we were “confrontational” after asking what they would do to fix the problems. Even if that was true (which it is not), the job we paid for is still not completed, confrontations or not, and that is what we paid for. New sod, not their opinions on how we handles our unhappiness with their lack of professionalism. They left an unfinished job with 100% of our money up front. They even broke our fence! Take it from us, do not do business with anyone who asks for all up front if the job isn’t complete. Sod was left out in sun on a pallet in 100 degree heat for 5+ hours dying before it was started to be installed, the ground was not properly prepped, and weeds and grass are now growing from underneath the new sod laid. They laid the sod in the wrong places. They left a mess, were unprofessional, disrespectful, and sadly did not operate in a Christian manner. We are having another local landscaper have to fix the problems, and they are shocked at the way our lawn was left by this company. Save your money and do business elsewhere. I guess turf masters does not care to help their customers. BBB will hear from us, as will Secretary of State and beyond. We are just shocked this is the way they operate."

Rothgery & Sons LLC is a small, owner-operated company with 2-5 seasonal employees. Our goal is to provide excellent customer service and keep our clients for years to come. We offer free estimates and advice on your projects, whether you use us or not!

"We have used Rothgery & Sons for snow removal at our Blue River vacation home for the past 5 years which includes plowing the driveway and shoveling the walkway. Few services in the area provide shoveling services, and Dave and his crews not only provide this service, but they use heavy equipment for the plow work (not just a blade to push the snow), so we've never needed to have another service do a haul-out when the pile gets too large. They are incredibly reliable, even during big storms. I am about to renew my contract with them for the upcoming season for the sixth year in a row."

At Grand County Landscaping we are dedicated to building superior landscapes and trusting relationships by providing quality products and exceptional service.

"This review is looong overdue but we wanted to give an absolutely huge shout-out and the best possible review for GC Landscaping. Dan and his amazing crew completely transformed our once sad looking front yard to a clean, durable, well and professionally built large deck complete with a firepit and area for future pergola. Daniel was careful to always ask us specifics on pavers, colors, lighting, etc before he proceeded. It was especially scary and intimidating for us as we'd never planned and executed such a large project. Above and beyond is such an understatement to their quality craftsmenship...we for sure will reach out to them again in the near and distant future for more projects. Thank you SO much again Daniel and the entire GC Landscaping team. Well deserved and sorry for such a late review!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Wood from black walnut, magnolia, eucalyptus, red maple, and invasive species like tree of heaven are not recommended for mulching. These trees release allelochemicals that can suppress plant growth. Some homeowners, however, use wood from these trees for mulching if it is less potent due to age or concentration, or if the plants are not as sensitive to them.

Yes, you need to use landscape fabric under your rubber mulch. Rubber mulch doesn’t decompose, so putting landscape fabric down can work as a barrier between your mulch and soil, preventing your mulch from mixing with your soil and leaching chemicals like aluminum, cadmium, and copper into it. Also, since weeds can occasionally get through rubber mulch, using landscape fabric as a second form of protection can increase its effectiveness.

Ensure clear delivery pathways, remove obstacles, and prepare to cover surfaces to protect landscaping areas. Coordinating with the provider for an estimated arrival prepares punctuality.

You should add 1 to 4 inches of mulch, depending on your garden type and needs. Keep in mind that no amount of mulch can completely prevent weeds, but a heavier coverage (closer to 4 inches) can suppress weeds enough that you are only seeing them sprout every few weeks. Finer mulch prevents weeds more effectively than large mulch, so if you’re using mulched leaves or shredded bark, 1 to 2 inches will likely suffice, while 3 to 4 inches is best for larger mulch, like bark chips or straw.

Mulch costs anywhere from $30 to $150 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. On the inexpensive end, red and black mulch are about $35 to $40 per cubic yard, and are typically made from recycled waste wood like shredded old pallets or deck material. Cedar, cypress, and rubber mulch cost anywhere from $100 to $120 per cubic yard. A pro can help you determine the type of mulch most suitable for your landscaping needs.
