"Mullins Asphalt serviced my driveway by filling in the cracks with hot rubber and then applying a seal coat, leaving the asphalt with a nice refreshed look. They were very professional and everything was done to my expectations, I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a company that is honest and does great work."

"MacDonald Paving was the only company that responded to my request, and they responded quickly. Got a bit back quickly and did the job quickly. Looks great and we're very happy. Only think I could think of to make the job better would be to level out the dirt area where the machines were. It used to be level, but now is not. Still happy with the job, however."

"They came out and sealed my driveway. There were issues on how the sealant turned out after it dried. I was promised a 3 year warranty and they and myself were not happy with the results. They promised to return and the owner guaranteed me it would happen. this was in January 2024. They have not returned and phone calls and text messages have never been returned. Not a company I would trust. Will not honor his word."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

While paving a driveway is possible to do as a DIY project, we don’t recommend it. Hiring a driveway professional to pave it will ensure that your driveway looks neat and clean and lasts for years to come, and it will also prevent a weak driveway and, potentially, damage to your foundation. Paving a driveway requires heavy machinery, and while you can rent the equipment needed, operating it close to your garage slab or around your home’s foundation can crack it and lead to structural issues.

Yes, using recycled asphalt millings is an eco-friendly alternative compared to concrete. Millings are reclaimed pieces of gravel that are recycled into aggregate that can be used on driveways, patios, walkways, basketball courts, tennis courts, and more.

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

Cobblestone is just one of many driveway materials. Other, more economical, albeit less elaborate options include concrete, asphalt, and gravel.

If you want a material that most closely resembles cobblestone, your best option is bricks or pavers. Both cost anywhere from $10 to $50 per square foot and can be laid in all kinds of patterns. Depending on the type of paver you choose, you can also get a good bang for your buck by investing in durable natural stone.

Concrete is typically the best material for a driveway if you’re looking for longevity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance. But, it’s not ideal for areas with annual freeze-frost cycles, nor is it the most attractive option—although you can get it stamped or painted. If your location is consistently below freezing, asphalt may be a better choice.
