"Alex and Adi were great to work with! They removed our popcorn ceiling and painted the interior walls and ceiling. They did great work with attention to detail. They were also great about staying in touch with the status of the project."

"They were perfect. OMB was able to get me an estimate same day I requested service. They were then able to get me scheduled in for repair during the same week. The work looks incredible. They went above and beyond in their repair. I had to get the flue/exhaust for an old cast iron fireplace removed from my basement and basement wall patched up, along with a window well removed and filled with concrete. All at an affordable price! Thanks OMB!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"I recently had two retaining walls built on our property by Gabe @ Peppers Landesign Services, and after the heavy storms we've experienced, I can confidently say that they exceeded every expectation. The retaining walls performed flawlessly, they are beautiful and handled a tremendous amount of water without any issues at all. It's obvious that the project was designed and built with quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail. The entire team was professional, knowledgeable, and great to work with from start to finish. It's reassuring to know we made the right investment and we're incredible grateful for the outstanding work. If you're looking for a landscape contractor who stands behind their work and delivers exceptional results, I highly recommend Gabe and his team. Thanks for a job very well done!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Poured concrete is often the cheapest material for a retaining wall, costing around $6 to $8 per square foot. Other budget-friendly options include vinyl and landscaping timbers, which range from $10 to $15 per square foot; landscaping timbers are particularly well-suited for DIY projects. Untreated timber and railroad ties are a step up in price, starting at $15 to $25 per square foot. Natural stones can also be a cost-effective choice if you can source them from your own property, but they can be expensive to purchase. High-end materials like steel are typically the most expensive but offer superior durability and aesthetics.

Regular inspection for issues like cracks or leaning and ensuring drainage stays clear.

If you don’t backfill a retaining wall—either at all or adequately enough—the wall won’t drain well, and water will be able to pass through it. Poor drainage will lead to a warped wall or a buildup of hydrostatic pressure, which can eventually collapse your retaining wall. If you have particularly sloped land, consult a structural engineer to ensure your hardscaping is adding value to your home.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

To maintain the integrity of your landscape, a retaining wall must be installed if the slope of the angle exceeds 35 degrees. The lean of the wall must be 1 inch per 12 inches in height to disperse the weight of the soil uniformly and guarantee the correct drainage of the soil.
