Customers say: True professional

"Glen has been cleaning and maintaining our fountain for about 10 years.  He is very professional and conscientious.  He shows up every three months and does his job without disturbing anything or anyone.  He keeps our fountain running clean and strong and allows us to enjoy the pleasant sights and sounds all year long.  I would highly recommend his services to anyone who has a fountain in their yard or business.

"We hired Waterfalls, Etcetera to clean or pond. Kurt was so nice and did a great job. He went above and beyond to help us and give advice as to what was needed to keep our koi pond in good working order. The next day he actually contacted us to make sure all was well. I told him my husband had fallen and the waterfall had not been turned on as yet. He came over and helped us get it working again. That is rare these days for such great customer service. We will be keeping him in our contacts for more work in the future."

"I have used
California Smartscape for various projects at my home in Fairbanks
Ranch, Rancho Santa Fe, over the past five years. The most recent
project was by far the largest and, involved a contract in the area
of $100,000. We wanted to modernize our landscaping while also
reducing our irrigation water use by 250,000 gallons/year. They once
again did a job which exceeded our expectations for quality and
value. They started with a number of different design ideas from
which we selected the final design. They then developed the plan and
found a number of creative ways of keeping the costs down. For
example, having the large cobble we used a lot of shipped directly
from Arizona to the house and tying in the new drip irrigation system
to our current supply system rather than starting over from scratch.
The crew that did the work was outstanding and well supervised (the
owner even showed up at least once a week to review results to date).
They suggested and implemented appropriate design changes as we went
along and were always responsive to requests we made. I have
recommended California Smartscape to several neighbors who have used
them and been as pleased with the results as we are.

"Ken and Hugo are fantastic! We have had them remodel our kitchen and two bathrooms, one being the master. Both bathrooms were complete demolition and remodel, and one needed to reroute the existing plumbing. All three remodels turned out amazing! Their tile and granite work are superb. They guided us along on all three projects, offering suggestions and pointing us to the right vendors to get our materials, all of whom made this overwhelmed couple feel very comfortable, and helped with the designs. We are so happy with the results and feel very fortunate to have found them."

"Brian and his team turned the piles of dirt in our backyard into our favorite place to spend time. They were able to take our ideas and make it a reality. Brian discussed the various plants we should use and why they would work best with the area that we have."

Aquarium Services questions, answered by experts

A septic tank always has some amount of liquid in it—which should usually be 8 to 12 inches from the top of the tank. If the liquid level is higher than that or is overflowing the drainage pipe that leads out to the leach field, the tank may be too full and in need of pumping.

Most homeowners know there’s a septic system problem when they can smell one. However, this isn’t exactly a scientific deduction method. Consider some of the other signs: standing water or constantly damp earth in the drainage area, toilets and sinks that won’t drain or frequently back up, and loud plumbing. You really need to be on top of routine maintenance with septic systems in order to avoid such unpleasant symptoms of a septic issue.

A household of four can easily fill a 1,000-gallon septic tank within a week. It may be 10 to 14 days for smaller households. But the reason why you don't need weekly pumping is because the tank's contents eventually reach the overflow pipe. They flow down this pipe to the absorption area whenever water is used in your home. The tank keeps working at this full level until it's pumped again.

When septic systems begin to fail, your waste will start to seep into the groundwater. You may notice a foul odor (it’ll smell like sewage) or a squishy, moist lawn. The grass right over your tank or drain field might grow super lush and green because your waste actually fertilizes it. Other signs include standing water in your drain field, slow-draining sinks and tubs, and gurgling noises in the plumbing.

Common signs that a septic tank is full include plumbing issues, odors, and changes in your yard. You may notice wastewater or sewage backing up into your home's drains, or that sinks, tubs, and toilets are draining slowly. Gurgling or bubbling sounds from the pipes are also a key indicator. Outside, you might smell foul sewage odors around your house or the septic tank area. Look for pooling water, spongy soil, or a marshy environment around the drain field. Another tell-tale sign is a patch of grass over the septic system that is suddenly lusher and greener than the rest of your lawn. If you notice any of these signs, you should contact a septic professional for an inspection and pumping.
