About us

HortScience, Inc. provides consulting services in horticulture, arboriculture and urban forestry. The scope of our projects ranges from pre-development tree surveys to plant problem diagnosis and applied research. Since 1983, HortScience has served clients in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, the United States and abroad. These include state, local and federal government, public agencies and institutions, and commercial clients such as development professionals, engineers, architects, landscape architects, landscape managers, and homeowners. Our mission is to identify and meet the landscape management needs of our clients, and to do so in a technically sound, practical manner. We believe that the most successful projects involve technical expertise, experience, communication and teamwork. Our strength lies in the breadth of experience and integrity of our staff, and in our commitment to quality. Providing consultation for tree preservation during all phases of development and re-development is HortScience’s most important service area. We have experience in the development process from both the developer and agency perspectives and have provided the breadth of services, from pre-planning tree surveys through post-construction maintenance and analysis. We work within the framework of tree preservation ordinances and protected tree designations on a daily basis. In addition, we are industry leaders in tree risk assessment and management.
