"Rafael and his team were a pleasure to work with. It is hard to find a company that values customer service and providing quality work to exceed customer expectation. Their quick response time on consultation, quote and answering questions is why I initially hired them to install a large awning over my deck. Throughout, the team was easy to communicate with through text and phone. They exceeded my expectations on quality, custom design work and install lead time."

"The patio cover was installed without any major hiccups. It was installed as designed. The pricing was very competitive. However, the installer made some minor mistakes. When these mistakes were brought to the attention of the company owner, the mistakes were corrected and a courtesy refund issued for any inconveniences caused. I would use PatioCrew again and recommend them to friends and colleagues.

"To begin with they came out and we discussed what was to be done and how it was to be done.  Then they brought out the samples - hundreds and hundreds of different types of patterns for the canvas awning.  Plus the steel frame can be powder coated to really tie in the frame and the awning with the house.  Finally, you can choose from various valances if you want.  Then the crew actually welding the structure came out to make final measurements and calculations.  Once everything was ready, they came out (on time) and installed it all......and it looks wonderful.
My advice is to have a good idea of what you want - material, powder coat color, etc., before they come out, or you may not be able to make a decision.
Because of the size of my project - a 7' x 41' section connected to a 9' x 20' section the total process took about 3 months.  But given the size of the project and all the work involved, I found this to be quite reasonable.  A smaller project would very likely take far less time.

"Work was excellent. Ocean Seven Builders Crew was very professional and arrived on time. Excellent preparations before work began, covering all plants surrounding the house. Minimum lunch break, offered to use our house for lunch but had lunch outside instead. Clean-up after work was completed was excellent, no debris found on the premise. The finished work, roof looks beautiful. The initial service call was excellent taking time and covering all the work details, color, upgrade options and benefits. Excellent follow-up after initial visit via email. Very responsive to all follow-on questions. We felt like they were doing the quality of work they would do on their own homes. I feel like I can recommend Ocean Seven Builders to my friends with confidence and without reservation."

"The overall patio looks good, however, you should know that Bobby omitted the structural C channel from my header beam without consulting me because it was difficult to install. He also only installed half of the rafter tails. When I asked why (via phone, after he left the site), he stated it was because he likes the look of the 'wider spaced rafter tails'. As if this was his decision to make. I believe it's because it amounted to less work. His crew also left my yard a mess, Del Taco trash and water bottles. The pin on my gate was also not secured which cause a family pet of 14 years to get lose which cost me $112 to get out of the dog pound."

"We had already had paid an architect and structural engineer to create blueprints.  My plan was to contact 4 contractors to submit bids for the job.  I found Goodfellas through Angie's List and they had a ton of great reviews, so I went to their website and requested a quote.  In less than 24 hours they contacted me and we scheduled an appointment for the next day.  I met with Danny and showed him the blueprints, and we talked about some other details that we wanted to see from the project.  Danny was very patient and took a lot of time listening to my wants/needs, but also gave some great suggestions on how we could improve the look and feel of the home.  After about an hour and a half, Danny provided me with a detailed quote and was on his way.
My wife and I continued to interview other contractors, but finally settled on Danny and his team.  Once I let Danny know we were going to go with Goodfellas, he scheduled another appointment with us to go through the contract.  This meeting was substantially longer than the first, but only because Danny is so detail oriented that he wanted to make sure that every possible piece of the project was covered in the contract.  After settling all the details of the contract, we discussed start dates.  Initially, Danny had promised to start about a week after the meeting, however, he called me later that night and said that they could start in a couple days.
Work started on 11/30/15.  Danny was on-site the first day with his crew walking them through the various aspects of the project.  I was not home at the time to meet all of them, but did get a chance to meet the Foreman, Rudy.  Rudy and his team stayed well past sunset to get some concrete demo work done and were back bright and early the next morning to finish it up.  By the end of the second day they had removed all the old concrete and had dug up the area where the new foundation will eventually be laid.  I am very curious about how this process works and Rudy has been more than willing to take a few minutes to explain things to me.
The project is still on going, but I know Danny, Rudy and their team are going  to continue to do great work.

"We made an appointment to meet with a Green Living rep to get a quote on our roof and paint. The rep was very polite and knowledgable of his products. They offered warranties and materials the other contractors weren't offering which made my wife and I feel really comfortable. They only use Owens Corning materials which my wife loved! For the ptside of the house they coated our house with cool wall and took care of all of our stucco issues and now our house looks amazing! Thank you Green Living and will definitely be recommending you to our friends and family."

"I had been looking forward to making changes around my home for a while now, but I wasn't too sure weather I was making the right decision or weather I even knew where to begin with the process. I decided to look around for someone to help out and I stumbled across these guys. Michael, (who I first met with for a free consultation) helped me plan this out and even exceed what my thoughts for the addition were (master bedroom, with a large bathroom and a walk in closet). There were minor fixtures that resulted in taking longer than what I expected, but the end results were phenomenal. I will definitely use these guys in the future!"

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

Hurricane fabric is a temporary form of hurricane protection that offers an alternative to boarding up windows or installing traditional storm panels. It is installed over windows, doors, and other openings before a storm. When installed properly, hurricane fabric is tested and proven to protect homes from Category 5 hurricanes, which can have winds over 157 miles per hour. It is intended to block the majority of wind and rain and protect against water, debris, and projectile damage. While the fabric is exceptionally durable, windows can still break if hit directly by high-velocity debris. Compared to other options, hurricane fabric is more protective than hurricane window film. Boarding up windows is more labor-intensive and requires storing heavy plywood, while hurricane screens are permanently attached to your home. To further increase protection, you can take additional steps like securing outdoor items and fortifying your home's foundation.

Acrylic, polyester, and vinyl are common options. Choose based on durability, UV resistance, and style.

A retractable awning won’t necessarily increase your home’s value very much, but it can offer a boost of aesthetic appeal to potential buyers. In the long-term, however, a well-placed awning will save you money on cooling and protect your deck and outdoor furniture from sun exposure during the hot summer season.

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.

Awnings offer a number of benefits, including:

  • Reduced summer home cooling costs with lower solar heat gains

  • Protection from sun, rain, and snow damage

  • Increased curb appeal for your home

Keep in mind that awnings also have drawbacks, including the potential to reduce your view, block natural light, and create new occasional home maintenance needs.
