"We recently had our front & back yard landscaped by Brad Sayre Landscaping and we couldn’t be happier. Our project included new lawn in the front & back yard, numerous plants plus a 12’ maple tree, irrigation, and pavers for the back patio. Brad’s business is family owned & operated, with his daughter Hailey from Devil Mountain Nursery in Petaluma who supplied the plants, his son Dan, who with crew Justin & Russell did an outstanding job on the sod, plant and paver installations, as well as new irrigation in the front & back yards. They were knowledgeable, always helpful, cheerful, and were open to discussing ideas. We were extremely impressed with Brad’s knowledge & selection of plants, his design ideas and his background in horticulture. We would highly recommend Brad Sayre Landscaping with an A+! Bob & Donna Doyle"

"Manny from Cinthya s Landscaping was able to see us immediately, repair our broken sprinkler system and charged us a very fair price. I have already shared the company info with family and friends; they are that good!"

"We thoroughly enjoyed working with this company for our turf repair project. They got us in weeks ahead of schedule as they knew time was an issue for our busy daycare. They came up with a plan to fix the seams and clumping issues in our turf that we just had installed by another company. They made the most of a tough project and were able to provide us with a playground surface our littles will be able to use for years to come. The guys are fun to work with and Dawn is a problem solver. I can’t recommend them enough."

"I think they treated the wrong lawn. The note they sent me via text message referenced trees and shrubs in my yard, I have none. They also did not leave a yard marker showing they had been there. Otherwise, this would have been a 5 star review."

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Generally, it is not necessary to remove old mulch before applying a new layer. As organic mulch breaks down, it enriches the soil with nutrients. However, you should remove the old layer if it shows signs of fungus or disease, which can be common in moist areas, or if the total depth is already too thick. Avoid letting the total mulch depth exceed 3 inches, as this can harm plant roots. If you do remove old, disease-free mulch, it can be added to a compost pile.

We always recommend wearing a protective mask when blowing leaves (as well as goggles if possible). Blowing leaves creates a lot of dust, and in many cases that dust contains a bunch of allergens that can make those sensitive very miserable. Even worse, moldy leaves can contain fungi and bacteria that could make humans as animals very sick. Mask up before starting your leaf project, and if anyone is helping you collect the leaves it’s a good idea if they wear a mask, too.

The best way to landscape your front yard on a budget is to invest in hiring a professional for hardscaping—things like upgrading walkways, redoing driveways, and installing partitions around garden beds. You can often do the softscaping yourself—think laying down mulch, caring for your lawn, removing weeds, and planting flowers and shrubs. It’s also almost always worthwhile to pay a professional for routine yard maintenance, as this dramatically improves curb appeal and delivers above 100% ROI in most cases.

Some states have bans on disposing of yard waste in plastic bags in landfills. Yard waste takes up space in landfills and releases methane gas when disposed of improperly. It's best to repurpose it naturally to benefit your garden and the environment.

Dead trees are dangerous for several reasons. They are structurally compromised and prone to branch or trunk failure, which can pose a significant safety risk to people, vehicles, and nearby structures. Dead trees can also harbor pests like termites, which may spread to other trees or your home. If a tree died from a disease, it could spread the illness to healthy trees. Additionally, the dry wood is highly flammable, increasing fire risk.
