"After months of trying to find the right landscaper who could meet the needs and support our vision of an entertainerâ s backyard, we found Elâ s Landscape on Yelp. Their stellar reputation is known in Coachella Valley as evident in their reviews. We totally agree with all of the other reviews and recommend them across Riverside County. Their work ethic, attention to detail, team and time management is nothing short of outstanding. - Emmanuel is responsive from the moment you reach out and he listens carefully to his clients. - He creates and develops a professional plan that aligns and optimizes your space. - His contract and phases are clearly laid out, his pricing is fair, totally reasonable and the timeline ideal, not aggressive and communicates with you throughout the process. -Details.Details.Details. They did not leave one stone uncovered... Literally. From the rock choices to cactus type, to the light wattage down to ensuring your turf color matches, Emmanuel was collaborative and educated us on the ideal choicesâ even providing multiple samples to compare and contrast so we captured a look similar to our travels to Mexico. Our pictures speak for themselves and plants were hand-picked by Emmanuel. Take note: Yucca rostrata (atop pool), Giant hesperaloe, Golden barrel cactus, Mexican fence post (lit up), Shark skin agaves, Agave parryi, Red yucca, ocotillos, nopales and 2 Olive trees (corners.) We give Elâ s landscape our highest recommendation and look forward to seeing his work prominently across any high-end boutique hotel to any mid-century modern home. He created the backyard of our dreams so much so every morning we wake up, itâ s as if we are on vacation. Thank you Emmanuel and Team! PS - You can visit our backyard anytime to see for yourself - itâ s magazine worthy (even the neighbors say so!)"

"Hector with Westcape was amazing. We bought a newly constructed home in PS which needed complete landscaping including grass sod, hedges, synthetic grass, pebble rock, decomposed granite, raised vegetable beds, flower beds, shrubs, trees, drainage piping for entire property, 40 tons of dirt to level the property, complete irrigation system, and landscape lighting for the entire property. It was a massive job and he did it quickly, efficiently, beautifully, and at a very reasonable cost. Out of the dozens of contractors we’ve hired he was by far the best to work with, the most accommodating and checked in with us every step of the way to ensure we were happy with each piece of the project. I strongly recommend Hector and Westcape, you won’t be disappointed (as we so often are with contractors). Not only would I hire him again, we are going to hire him again for more work in the future. His reviews on HomeAdvisor were great and now I know why, I was so pleased I felt compelled to tell everyone so they don’t make a mistake and hire someone else."

"Martin was very helpful explaining what the problem was and how he would fix it. His estimate was reasonable and despite some scheduling issues got the job done quickly and to my satisfaction. I even decided to have him do my landscaping."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The average cost for landscaping is around $3,500, but prices can range from as low as $200 for simple DIY projects to $14,000 or more for extensive work. Several factors influence the final price, including your geographic location, yard size, project scope, chosen materials, site preparation, and the type of landscaping involved. Professional landscaper labor costs typically range from $50 to $100 per hour.

For a smaller budget, you can focus on softscaping projects like adding mulch, flowers, and shrubs, which might only cost a few hundred dollars if you do the work yourself. A budget of around $5,000 could cover projects like a simple patio, new plants and tree trimming, or a water feature. More extensive hardscaping projects, such as pergolas, patios, and walkways, can push the budget to $14,000 or more. For example, a flower bed installation averages between $800 and $3,000, while landscape lighting installation can cost from $2,000 to $6,000.

The best landscaping for a septic drain field is shallow-rooted grass or native vegetation that helps prevent soil erosion while allowing water to evaporate efficiently. Avoid planting trees, shrubs, or deep-rooted plants near the drain field because the roots can infiltrate pipes and cause blockages. Using mulch or gravel sparingly can also help retain moisture and protect the system without restricting airflow.

Late August, September, and mid-October are the ideal months for planting a young tree. However, the best time to plant a tree ultimately depends on when the weather transitions to fall-like conditions and eventually winter frost. As long as the hottest days of summer have passed and the ground hasn’t frozen yet, you can still successfully plant trees.

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.

It’s usually best to buy plants from a local greenhouse or nursery yourself, but landscapers are also a reliable option. First, you can choose exactly what plants you want based on their appearance rather than relying on your landscaper to choose. Additionally, while it’s more time-consuming to go buy the plants yourself, you’ll often save money because landscapers charge for delivery and may upcharge the plants. You can also speak to a professional at a nursery to ensure you understand how to care for your plants and get the most long-term value.
