"I had multiple projects for Barry. He exceeded all my expectations. Over the years I've hired several different handymen. They did the job but left me feeling like it was just Okay. Barry, thank you very much for doing a great job!"

"Scheduled an appointment for several repairs that needed to be completed prior to closing on a listing. The repairs covered installing a dishwasher, installing GFCI outlets, drywall repair and painting to match existing paint, and installing a new toilet wax ring. All work was completed on time, professionally, and at competitive rates! Such a relief to find a company that covers such a wide array of repairs."

"Nate rebuilt my barn doors. He showed up on time, suggested improvements and gave a fair estimate for the project. The completed doors look great. I will hire him for future projects."

"Finished product was very good. The problems with the project were basically related to keeping scheduled appointments and punctuality. The project was scheduled 2-3 months in advance, but the project didn't start or finish on time. There were empty promises."

"I recently hired Sundance for some home repairs, and I couldn't be happier with the results! From the moment he arrived, he was professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable. He tackled a variety of tasks, including fixing a leaky faucet, patching up drywall, and installing new light fixtures. Each job was completed with precision and attention to detail. Highly recommend ! :)"

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

The most common slope, or roof pitch, for a shed is 4:12 or four inches of height for every horizontal foot. For areas that experience heavy snow loads, a steeper roof of 6:12 or 9:12 is best.

You don’t typically need a permit to build a shed, but it’s best to check with your local city clerk to make sure before you start the project. Every town, city, and municipality can have different rules when it comes to any home improvement project. Homeowners associations sometimes have restrictions on the materials you can use on your property as well.

It is recommended that you check with your local building official on barn building requirements and rules, since size restrictions vary greatly from region to region based on what your property is zoned for. Some cities limit barn construction depending on if your property is residential or commercial. The three main factors your building commission will evaluate are:

  • Height and lot coverage: How tall your barn is and how much of your total property it occupies

  • Setback: Distance between barn and property line

  • Easement: Legal right for another owner to access another’s property

If you’re building a pole barn in place of a traditional home, lenders usually don’t offer traditional mortgages for these structures. You can also expect higher insulation costs and building permits may not be allowed in your area. Even if you’re just using a pole barn as storage or as a shelter for animals, these structures are less durable than steel buildings and require more maintenance.

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.
