"Excellent. We Had Kitchen Cabinets That Were Originally 'Painted' By An Individual That Did Such A Bad Job, That We Didn't Know, If It Was Possible To Even Fix. Enter Rick. He Assured Us That It Would Be Possible And Explained The Process That Would Be Necessary To Bring Them Back To Life. We Quickly Realized That He Has An In Depth Knowledge of What He Does By Simply Listening To Him Speak About What Will Need To Be Done. He Was Always Quick To Respond, Professional And Kept Us Up To Date During The Whole Process. Even Though The Job Required A Multi Step Process, The Initial Estimate He Gave Matched The Final Bill. The Attention To Detail, Such As Taping Off And Securing Any Area Not Being Painted, And Not Just A Quick Tape Off, But A Sincere Effort For Each Line Being Straight As Can Be, Is Hard To Find. Of Course When We Mention Rick, We Are Also Referring To Eric, Who Displayed The Same Work Ethic. Everything Was On Time And On Budget. Thanks Guys. :)"

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing questions, answered by experts

You should not clean cabinets with vinegar. While many homeowners think it is a natural cleaner, vinegar is a mild acid, not a degreaser. Since it does not cut through greasy grime, it won't effectively remove it from kitchen cabinets. For best results, use a degreasing cleaner designed for prep work, then rinse and dry thoroughly before sanding.

A kitchen remodel can be a major undertaking, depending on how much you change. If you’re changing the kitchen layout, you might be tempted to scrap everything and start fresh, but there are a few different ways to save money throughout the process.

  • Keep your existing cabinets and reface or repaint them

  • Consider choosing budget appliances and fixtures

  • DIY when possible, such as painting walls yourself

  • Choose prefabricated cabinets instead of custom cabinetry

  • Choose affordable flooring options where possible

Ensuring longevity involves using high-quality materials, carefully maintaining veneer surfaces, promptly repairing scratches or imperfections, and cleaning using appropriate solutions.

Cabinet refacing typically takes 2 to 5 days to complete. The exact duration depends on several factors, including the size of the kitchen or bathroom, the level of customization, and the complexity of the updates. For example, uniquely designed doors and drawer fronts may take longer to manufacture and install. While a professional can often complete the job within this timeframe, a DIY refacing project may take longer.

Since there are many methods of repairing your cabinets, including refacing and refinishing, it can be tricky to know when to replace or fix your existing cabinets. Generally, it’s best to repair your existing cabinets when the cabinet boxes are in good condition. Additionally, this option is best when you’re being budget-friendly or remodeling.

Replacing your cabinets is best when you’re changing the layout of the room or when the cabinet boxes are in rough shape. It’s also best to replace your cabinets if you need more storage space, as this will remove the existing cabinets for new ones.
