"First off Iâ d like to say what an awesome company. Iâ m so pleased and happy with the work ethic these young men have. It doesnâ t get any better than George Strickland and his crew. What a excellent job they did. George had suggestions that you could not argue with. He knew exactly what needed to be done for my yard and to please me. He will be highly recommended by myself and my husband. Iâ ve never had a job done that went so smoothly. Heâ s a very fair and honest gentleman. If you hire Strickland Landscaping and Irrigation it will be the best thing you can do for yourself and your projects. Heâ s very talented and can do most anything. I’ve been working in landscaping for 5-6 years with my father and he has more than 20 years of experience in landscaping. We are a family owned business and my father has worked for two landscaping companies and those companies are Montgomery landscaping and Golden Landscapes. We've done irrigation and drainage work in multiple locations in alabama, we also do trimming, mulch, and straw. We do work in Montgomery, Wetumpka, Prattville, Millbrook, Alabaster, and any other city in the state of Alabama. We are very well versed in trimming ,irrigation and drainage systems, and laying sod and installing shrubs, trees and flowers. We take pride in our work and we cater to every aspect of what the client asks of us and we always ask for the clients opinion of the project before we finish. I believe we should be hired because of are amazing work ethic and experience we have in doing landscaping and our top priority will be to satisfy all clients with any project they have for us to complete.

Excavating questions, answered by experts

It takes one hour to dig a 10-foot trench by hand. Use a trenching shovel with a sharp tip and a long head. Plan for more time if your soil is heavy or rocky. Consider renting a trencher if you’re digging a long or deep trench or if you have challenging soil or terrain.

The rules for trenching and excavation include setting up and following safety protocols, learning how to use tools and machines properly, and ensuring there is a safe exit for all workers. Keep heavy equipment and materials away from the edge of the hole or trench. Call the 811 dig line before starting any excavation or trenching project to ensure you don’t hit any electrical or gas lines.

There are many ways to cut through roots when digging, especially if your trencher doesn’t seem to be removing the roots. First, use a shovel to expose the roots. Then, use gardening shears to clear out smaller roots or a reciprocating saw to remove larger plant roots. If you plan on keeping the plant, avoid cutting any roots over 2 inches thick.

Excavation and grading are both generally necessary for designing your foundation, and leveling the ground where your foundation will go. These steps can also prepare the area by removing vegetation and anything else that could interfere with your home’s foundation.

As a general rule, the protected area should be about 1½ times as wide as the canopy of the tree’s leaves. This digging measurement can vary by tree species and the age of the tree. Of course, that can be a lot of fencing for larger trees, which is why our first step is about making difficult decisions on which trees to save.
