"I moved into a house with a large back yard that looked like it hadnâ t been cared for in years. Vines were growing over fences and along the ground in front of the fences and all over any bushes or trees near the fence. Some weeds were knee high, some weeds waist high. If there was grass in the back yard, I couldnâ t see it. The hedges were overgrown in the front and back yard. Weeds were coming up under and through the bushes. Limbs were all over the place. KD (if Iâ m spelling this correctly) did an awesome job of cleaning the place up. In fact, to get to the gate that he could get his mower through (after hours of weed whacking and getting up fallen limbs), he cleared out much of that part of the Montgomery City alley. Note: I had repeatedly called the city and did not get a response. The lot was edged and cleared with a blower. No remnants of what had been in the yard remained - all was cleaned up. I appreciate.the hard work put in by Lawn Sharks 101. They were professional, polite, thorough, and did the huge job quickly. I highly recommend Lawn Sharks 101 and definitely will hire them again."

Small jobs welcome

Offers commercial services

"Mike from Hornsby Mowing did an excellent job with my yard. I told him I wanted basic services, which included mowing the lawn and cleaning up the debris. He went the extra mile by trimming both the front and back yard, and he honored my request to make my yard look clean and tidy again. He was quick to respond to my questions, offered me a fair price, and gave me several ways to contact him for his services. I would highly recommend HornsbyMowing and look forward to continuing business with him. Thank-you Mike Sincerely!!!"

Lawns questions, answered by experts

Most housekeepers won’t handle tasks that require specialized equipment or training, like carpet shampooing, window washing at high levels, or outdoor cleaning. Housekeepers typically dust, vacuum, mop, wash dishes, clean surfaces, and launder linens. It’s best to clarify what services are included before hiring to make sure you’re on the same page.

In the fall, you should aerate the soil, overseed the bare spots, kill weeds, mow the lawn low, and rake your leaves. By boosting your lawn’s health in the fall, your grass will be stronger throughout the winter and come back healthier in the spring. You should also trim your perennials so that they withstand the winter and are ready for new growth in the spring.

There are several ways to dispose of excess sod, including building a compost pile, taking it to a green waste disposal facility, donating the sod, or reusing it in another part of your yard. It’s a good idea to check with your local municipality to see how to get rid of yard waste, as some areas have local regulations on what can go in the green waste bin. For example, your recycling services may reject too much soil added to green waste.

The legality of blowing leaves into the street depends on your city or county laws. Many cities have codes that restrict blowing leaves into the street because it can obstruct the view of nearby drivers and make cars dirty, not to mention angering neighbors. Violations can result in a fine or other problems. You can check the codes on your municipal government website to learn more local guidelines, but avoid spraying leaves into streets for now.

How often you should maintain your yard depends on your climate and what season it is. A general rule of thumb is to maintain a lawn height of three inches.
