Remodeling and home building services. One man operation for hands on quality construction. I use subcontractors for more major projects and shorter timeframe. Most remodeling is done Cost Plus and I prefer not to give budgets instead of estimates.

SCB is a woman owned small business and it's owners have 40+ years of construction industry experience. SCB utilizes subcontractors for some areas of expertise but they are closely supervised by SCB personnel. Billing is done on a per job basis, usually when complete, but jobs longer in duration than one week will require weekly payments based on progress. SCB accepts cash, checks and credit/debit cards.

We basically do a little bit of everything. We have a few employees right now but are growing by the week. Will sub-contract out when need be. We will accept payment in the form of cash, checks, and soon will be set up to accept credit/debit cards.

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Most cottage builds take between six months and one year from planning to completion. The timeline includes design, permitting, site prep, construction, and finishing work. Factors such as weather, material delays, and permitting can affect the schedule. Hiring an experienced cottage building contractor and making prompt decisions can help speed up the process.

Due to the expansion of the tiny house movement, you can usually find tiny houses to buy in your state. Prices range considerably based on size, style, and type. If you’re looking for a tiny home that’s move-in ready, you may be able to find a good deal to buy or a prefab dealer near you.

Yes, home builders need to be licensed in every state and municipality in the country. The specific license required varies based on the location and the work, but most states require that the builder hold a general contractor’s license at minimum. Some states and cities also require that plumbing, electrical, roofing, and sewage system construction require individual licenses, in which case the builder may subcontract the work. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing tool to confirm that the builder you’re considering holds all the proper licenses.

The construction stage, which includes pouring the foundation, framing the structure or building the walls if you choose a concrete house, and installing doors, windows, a roof, siding, drywall, and flooring, will almost always take the longest. The planning phase can take just as long if you’re building a custom home, but the finishing process, which includes painting, installing trim, and finishing the interior, will rarely take longer than the previous two phases.

Common pitfalls include underestimating the cost of site preparation, overlooking permit and utility fees, and not setting aside funds for unexpected changes. Change orders during construction can disrupt your budget. It’s best to plan a detailed budget, obtain multiple quotes, and include a 10% to 15% contingency fund for unexpected expenses.
