"We recently purchased a fire box from Overhead Door and Fireplace, but that will be the last time we darken there door. When the fire box and piping was picked up, and reached our home we found holes in several of the pipes. We called and were told to bring them back for replacement. At that time they said we possibly messed them up while trying to install them ourselves, we were going to have them install the fireplace. Our fire place was not even framed up at this time, how could it be installed. The lady manager called us back saying if she had been there, she would not have taken them back. Today we called them back trying to set up an installation date, the lady manager stated again she would not have taken the pipe back if she had been there. He told her it was put in the back of the truck by their employees, it was given to us that way. Needless to say my husband was not happy. We have now found someone else to get our garage door and other gas fireplace from, if they don’t want our business that’s fine with us and would not recommend them. I’m personally amazed at the lack of professionalism from this business and their employees."

The effect a gas fireplace has on your gas bill will depend on how often you use it, the size of the rooms you’re heating with it, and the BTUs of the fireplace itself, but generally speaking, it should only cost a few cents an hour to run it when it’s on. As long as a licensed professional installs your gas lines, you don’t have to do anything extra to prepare for cold weather. If there are pipes that require a wrap, your installer should have done it for you already. If you want to be absolutely sure your gas system is good to go for winter, the best option is to schedule a gas line inspection.

Having the right size pipe ensures proper drainage and helps protect against clogs and other plumbing problems. A pipe that's too small will take longer to drain, which can result in backups. And solids can build up in pipes that are too large. Choosing a pipe with the appropriate volume also means it will be able to handle water pressure, which is the force behind the water.

In North America, pipe measurements are listed as the nominal pipe size (NPS). This measurement refers to the outside diameter. As an example, a 1/2-inch copper pipe has an outside diameter of 5/8 of an inch. If a hardware store lists a pipe as having a 2 NPS, it means that all the pipes with this measurement have a 2 ⅜-inch outside diameter, regardless of wall thickness and inside diameter.
