"Use a different company, not this one. We hired them to extend an existing fence to enclose more of our yard and there were problems from the start. I could list them all but I will just hit the main points here. When we agreed to start this project we were told it would be 5 weeks to completion. The date they were finished, was 15 weeks from when we hired them. They kept coming up will all sorts of reasons for the delay but regardless, an additional 10 weeks is way beyond any normal delays. Also, after they said they were done the first time, we had to call numerous times to have the fencing and gate installed properly. That should have been done right the first time, or even second, but not after multiple calls and visits. We got the feeling that this company did not care about our job and just did a half-*** job to get it done to move on to the next job. I assume they hoped we would not notice or complain about the poor work. The final product had some issues that we will have a different company come fix because we are tired of having this company come out to “fix” things. We were not looking for perfection, but we did expect a professional installation since we hired a professional fence installer. Then there are the installers, they did not care about our yard. They left trash and metal pieces of wire all over the yard. They splashed concrete on our brick wall that won’t come off. And they also kept parking their work truck in the grass and dug a pit in the grass by driving and getting stuck. I had to repair these areas multiple times. Even after telling them to stop driving on the grass. I highly recommend you choose a different fencing company."

Driveway Gates questions, answered by experts

A security door costs an average of $1,400, but costs can range from $600 for a simple screen or steel door to more than $4,600 for a wrought-iron security door. You can also buy specialized locks separately for $200 to $600. If you decide to hire a pro to install your new security door, you’ll spend around $275 to $425 on labor costs.

To make your gate safe, purchase a gate made from strong material such as wrought iron, stainless steel, or other metals. Ensure that the gate has strong joints and bars that are welded on rather than inserted loosely. If you’re concerned about people climbing over your gate, you can deter them by installing fence spikes along the top as an extra precaution.

Electric gates can be forced open if someone applies enough force to the edge furthest from the mounting bracket. You can reduce this risk by adding an electric lock to your gate opener. However, automatic gate openers generally help deter intruders, especially when paired with outdoor lighting and security cameras. Other home security tips include trimming trees surrounding the area for added visibility and installing motion sensors in your yard.

Thieves can open almost anything with enough time and the right tools, but they also prefer easy targets that are unlikely to get them caught. Forcing open gates is loud and difficult, and to be able to open one electronically requires extensive knowledge of the system, which most thieves don't have. Electric and other security gates are great deterrents because the thief will move to an easier target. If the thief is determined to enter your property, they will most likely find a different entrance point.

Each has its use, depending on the scenario. Security doors are primarily intended to keep people out of the home, while storm doors are used to protect the home from extreme weather. Both tend to be made from heavy-duty metal and may include glass panels to allow light to enter the home. Storm doors can feature mesh screens, just like screen doors, to allow for increased ventilation and to keep out pests. Security doors rarely, if ever, have mesh screens.
