"I highly recommend this company for granite repair. They promptly responded to my request and scheduled an appointment for the very next day. They arrived on time, were extremely professional, and repaired my granite countertop so flawlessly that you can’t even tell where the crack had been. "Jonathan Houston is by far the best subcontractor I have ever dealt with when it comes to counters, and stone work in general. I have never had an issue with him or his crew when is comes to their cleanliness, punctuality, or professionalism. His prices are always reasonable and I can count on him to be fair which is very hard to come by in this day and time with all of the big businesses out there looking to only profit as much as possible. From a contracting standpoint, if you are not using Rock Solid Marble and Granite I highly suggest you look and reach out to Jonathan because I can guarantee the granite company you are using right now can not possibly place into their work the same amount of attention to detail and care into the fabrication of your counters, fireplaces, or any of your stone desires. Your customers will most definitely thank you for having him as a part of your team to complete your projects."

"When my husbands work schedule changed allowing him to complete the work, Al was flexible about the change. I called and spoke to Al and he was gracious and understanding. Al performed everything as discussed and kept me informed as we went along. While the work was not needed, his service is great! I kept his card and plan to call him with future jobs."

Stone Countertops FAQs, answered by experts

Installing new kitchen countertops costs $1,850 to $4,450, with an average price of $3,140. Some materials, like marble and granite, are more expensive than others. Additionally, the size of the countertop impacts the overall price. Labor accounts for 10% to 20% of the overall project cost. Add-ons, like edging and corner treatments, also increase the cost.

Both marble and quartz are decent kitchen countertop choices for different reasons. Marble provides an elegant look that’s sure to attract eyeballs, which can add value to a home. However, this isn’t the most durable material around and is easily scratched and stained. Quartz may not offer a classic look like marble, but it is available in a wide range of colors and patterns. It’s also durable, with the ability to resist scratches and stains.

Different types of engineered stone countertops require varying installation methods. The best option is to hire a countertop installer, especially if you are unfamiliar with the stone you plan to use. Generally speaking, quartz is the easiest for DIYers because you can cut it on site with a diamond blade and diamond hole saw. The average DIYer is unlikely to have the special tools to cut sintered stone countertops. Before diving into a project, make sure you have the experience and tools to do the job correctly.

The best tool for cutting countertops depends on the type of countertop material. For some softer materials, like laminate (Formica) and butcher block, you can use a hand saw, but most experts recommend power saws like circular saws, since these make the job go faster and easier and give more even results. However, power saws and circular saws are dangerous if used incorrectly, and they can be so powerful that they damage or chip laminate, stone, and other types of countertops. For this reason, you should take safety precautions and use best practices to prevent damage.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.
