Small jobs welcome

"Keldon did a great job. He was hired to mount two flood lights on the back of a two story house and fish the wire into the attic. His partner had to bail on him last minute, but he still managed to do the project himself. He worked very hard and made sure the job was done correctly. When he encountered a difficulty, he was able to problem solve around it. I thought the price was fair. I will recommend him to neighbors interested in the same project. The only reason I am rating 4.5 stars is that an accident occurred that damaged my outside water faucet. He bent it back into place but was not able to completely straighten it. I put a new handle on yesterday, and it works fine but is a bit awkward."

"Gary was excellent. I actually bought the wrong size curtain rods, but he was able to cut it down so it would fit my window. Above and beyond the call of duty. He was very polite and personable. I will call them again."

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

A good U-factor for windows is 0.30 or lower, but they can range from 0.20 to 1.20. A general rule of thumb when it comes to the U-factor is that the lower, the better.

Yes, egress windows are grandfathered. However, this comes with some specifications. If you are remodeling a basement or adding a sleeping area, you’ll need to update the egress windows to be up to proper code. But, if you’re leaving your home as is, you do not have to adhere to these requirements.

The average lifespan for a casement window is around 20 years, but some higher-end casement windows with more durable frame materials can last up to around 40 years before you need to replace them. You’ll need to carry out routine maintenance and window cleaning—and, on occasion, casement window restoration—to extend the lifespan of your casement windows. But they tend to wear more slowly than windows with sliding sashes because the weatherstripping sees minimal friction.

Egress windows require regular maintenance to ensure they function correctly. This includes cleaning the glass, inspecting the frame and well for debris, and making sure the cover or well drains properly. It is also important to check that the window sills and wells are watertight and to inspect and repair any damage to the window frame or seals to prevent leaks and maintain functionality.

Arched windows are slightly more expensive than standard rectangular ones, but they only cost $50 to $100 more per window. However, adapting a rectangular wall opening to accept an arched window can add $200 to $400 to your total, making them a more expensive option over sticking with a standard window replacement.
