"Mr. Glass is a wonderful man! Our job was small, so he did it himself when he came for the appraisal.....and after looking at our roof that we thought needed replacing, he said it was in good enough shape that he would give us a warranty on it for several more years----and put it in writing! He is the most caring, considerate, and attentive person we've ever met. Our roof does NOT leak anymore!"

"Prompley sent someone to measure and show me samples of vinyl flooring. After getting an estimate and signing a contract we set a date for installation. The installers arrived on time and did a good job."

"Prompt response to my invite. Repairs were completed the next day. He gave a Detailed account of the problem and the repair. Very polite . He noticed another roof problem and recommended a solution and a local contractor who might could do the repair. As this is rental property and I live out of town, I found this helpful. I was pleased with the price for the repairs."

Hi, Chuck Baker here, owner of Chucks Roof Repair.com. I was born in the great state of Alabama in 1968. As the son of a very skilled and well respected roofer, I began learning the trade at a very young age. In 1985 I began working on roofs with my father full time. He taught me something that is very rare these days. To take pride in my work and to do the right thing regardless if anyone is watching or not.\n\nOver the last 28 years, I have seen the roofing trade in general go from a skilled craftsmanship performed mainly by American Citizens to mostly foreign laborers slapping on shingles as fast as they can go. Often not slowing down to pay enough attention to the many detail areas which are of extreme importance to a roofs performance. Then there are the storm chasers and other tradesmen who will take on a roof job without much knowledge of these detail areas. This can easily lead to a poorly installed roof.\n\nI have been a professional roofer for over 28 years.

Skylights questions, answered by experts

Most homeowners insurance policies cover skyight damage that is caused by hail. Hail damage is considered a covered peril under most standard insurance policies. However, this only applies if your skylights were properly installed. Also, insurance policies vary, so be sure to check your individual policy to see if skylight hail damage is covered.

Ceiling costs depend on many factors, such as the material used and size, but coffered ceilings are considered one of the more expensive ceiling options. If you want to install a coffered ceiling but have a limited budget, consider using plywood instead of hardwood—it costs $2–$4.50 per square foot, while hardwood can be as much as $20 per square foot.

This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.

Common skylight issues include leaks, condensation between glass panes, damaged seals, and cracks in the glazing. Regular exposure to weather elements can lead to these problems, requiring timely attention to preserve the integrity of the skylight and the surrounding roof structure.

Yes, you can add blinds or shades to both roof windows and skylights, but roof windows tend to have more options available. Retractable skylight shades are popular on both options for added privacy, light control, and heat reduction, although they’re more expensive than manually-operated blinds or shades. If you have a roof window or skylight set in a high ceiling, a motorized or solar-powered skylight window covering is probably your best bet.
