"I asked for a 30'x30' area to be installed for a playset. They brought in dirt, leveled the area, put down weed barrier, installed landscaping timber border, and topped the area with mulch. The quality of the work was excellent. Communication with the company was easy and timely. Overall, extremely professional, high quality work, and I would recommend them to anyone. I will absolutely call them again if we need more outdoor projects done."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

If shade is a priority for you, then panting elm trees is a fine choice. A full mature elm tree has enough aesthetic appeal for some folks that it could add value to your home.

That said, never plant elm trees too close to your home, sewer line, or sidewalks, as their roots can damage these, which can lead to costly repairs.

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.

Palm trees are relatively easy to grow, especially when planting different varieties in their native habitats. While regular watering is crucial in the first couple of months while the palm develops a strong root ball, palms typically require minimal maintenance once they’re established. You’ll need to prune palm fronds once or twice per year to keep it in tip-top shape.

A rock garden can last indefinitely as long as you properly maintain it. Whether solely made of rocks or with greenery incorporated, they generally last a while, though it may vary based on your climate.

As much as you might try to keep a healthy, nutrient-rich lawn, you still may notice signs of St. Augustine decline (SAD)—a viral disease that discolors your grass blades. St. Augustine decline looks like:

  • Discoloration in the leaves (chlorosis)—leaves appear yellow and splotchy

  • Decline in growth

  • Leaves turn black within 3 years

  • Grass appears less vibrant

  • Grass begins to thin

  • Root rot

  • Grass takes longer to recover
