Door transitions can work with virtually any flooring type; however, different transition strips lend themselves better to specific flooring types. For instance, if you are bridging the gap between a taller floor, like carpet, to a shorter floor, like hardwood, then you will want a transition strip with a slight slope to bridge the height difference. When you install laminate flooring, you have to install spacers (also called expansion gaps) along the edges. This space along the edges gives the flooring the room it needs to naturally expand and contract. When you don't have an expansion gap, you can end up with damaged or warped planks. This can lead to uneven flooring, which is unsightly and can cause a trip hazard.

If you also need to know how to fill the gap between the floor and the baseboard, it's best to use a flexible, paintable latex caulk. Clean the area thoroughly to remove dust and debris. Then, apply a smooth bead of caulk along the gap using a caulking gun, and use a caulk-smoothing tool to press and smooth it into place. If the gap is large, you may need to insert backer rod, such as a foam filler, before caulking. Once dry, paint the caulk to match the baseboard for a clean, seamless look.

Bamboo floors are fairly low-maintenance. You’ll need to sweep or vacuum them regularly to remove debris and rub off scuffs quickly to prevent permanent damage. Bamboo is vulnerable to moisture, so wipe up spills immediately to prevent permanent damage.
