We are a family-run firm headquartered in Madison and serving all Wisconsin. At our website, you can quickly sign up for Lead Safe Renovator training. In addition to being a minority- and woman-owned business, we are members of the NAHB, NARI and ABC.

"Doug was extremely thorough and thoughtfully answered all of our questions during the lead investigation and once we had the report. Would definitely recommend for residential lead testing."

"This guy is not a General Contractor. He is a handyman at best. He doesn't pull permits or get inspections done. He did our bathroom remodel and his work is sub-par. He put the light in and it needs to be changed out do to it hanging over the mirror. Once he put the new one in it had to be patched. Didn't wait for the patch to dry and painted over it and got paint all over our new light. The bas of the new shower is not pitched so we have water pooling in our shower every time we use the shower. This was brought to their attention when the cement was poured and we were assured that it was pitched correctly, after tile was put in and it indeed was not pitched correctly they refused to correct it. They put the wrong trim in and we had to replace it. They put the trim around the door which also had to be removed as it was put in wrong and covered the hinges and we couldn't put the door on until we removed the trim. They removed a window where the shower was and put in a glass block window. Which was fine but they didn't put the correct window to code. I have uploaded some of the photos but deleted most of them already due to my frustration! But I have attached the email sent to him with no response from him. Just all in all a joke!"

Lead Testing and Removal questions, answered by experts

Professional testing for lead paint costs about $300, ranging from about $250 to $700, depending on the square footage, accessibility, and location. However, testing for lead paint with a DIY home-testing kit costs about $25, but doesn’t guarantee accurate results. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends using a lead test kit that complies with the Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule, which has strict criteria for ensuring a more accurate reading.

Common home surfaces to test for lead include:

  • Walls

  • Windows

  • Doors

  • Molding and trim

  • Railings

A professional indoor air quality inspection takes anywhere from one to three hours, depending on the size of your home and the number of necessary samples. After the test, the specialist will discuss the findings, but you won’t get a full written report for 2 to 10 days, though you can ask your pro to expedite the process, if needed.

“Testing” can start with your senses: Assessing your water’s appearance, taste, and smell can all be good first steps. The best way to know for sure what’s going on with your water is to use a well water testing kit, which can tell you about the specific levels of bacteria, dissolved solids, and hardness of your water with precision. Have a pro test your well water at least once per year.

Unfortunately, lead dust does not look different from any other type of dust. You cannot detect it with the naked eye. To determine if you have lead dust in your home, you will need to hire a local company to take a sample from the paint and test it for you in a lab.

While not all homes built before 1978 contain lead paint, enough do, so you’ll still want to test to be on the safe side. The federal government banned lead-based paint for homes in 1978, but your state may have banned lead before that time. Around 24% of homes built between 1960 and 1977 contained lead-based paint, while 87% of homes built before 1940 contained lead-based paint.
