"Elite Building and Design did a great job on our deck as well as an addition of a gym and spa in our basement area. The attention to detail, craftsmanship and integrity of their work is unmatched in the industry today! Old school work ethic and values, with modern solutions and innovation. "After looking for 1 year for a contractor, we looked at Angi. We were connected with Antonio of A&M General Construction, and we walked around the house explaining what we wanted. As we explained our plans, he asked questions but never said we won't be able to do that or change our minds to do something we didn't want. We had them remove four windows and replace 3 of them them were able to get exactly the windows we wanted. Took out two walls and opened up the room. Opened a walkway into the bathroom. Moved an intake vent. Painted, layed tile, converted bathtub into shower. We were very happy with the results. My wife loves her new master bedroom."

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

Modular homes are a type of prefab home. Specifically, manufacturers first build modular homes in sections and then deliver them to the job site. The modules, or sections, are usually at least 70% finished before they arrive on your property.

In comparison, prefab homes arrive in panels or segments, and workers assemble them on-site. Generally speaking, modular homes tend to be more durable, and their consistent construction standards may mean you’ll have an easier time getting conventional home loans.

Builder-grade is one of two types of stock cabinets, whereas semi-custom designs allow homeowners some control over the color, finish, or hardware on their cabinets. Stock cabinets are sold in construction-grade and builder-grade designs. Construction-grade cabinets are usually made from inexpensive medium-density fiberboard, which is prone to moisture damage, whereas builder-grade models are a step up with higher-quality materials. Construction-grade designs are the most common type of cabinets in America.

On average, the cost of a home builder is about $150 per square foot, but that price can range from around $100 to $400 per square foot or more. That puts the typical price range of a standard, 2,000-square-foot house between $200,000 and $800,000. Some factors that affect the price of hiring a home builder include the following:

  • Location of your home and the living cost in the area

  • Type of foundation and framing you choose

  • Quality of the building materials

  • Footprint and layout of the house

  • Number of stories

  • Builder’s experience

Modular homes can go up or down in value depending on a few factors. In areas where real estate is appreciating, the value of modular homes is likely to increase, and vice versa. Additionally, the value of modular homes depends partially on the area. In cities where every other home is stick-built, modular homes might be considered a functional obsolescence, in which case they could be less desirable and go down in value. In either case, though, modular homes can still be a good investment, especially since they provide housing at a lower upfront cost.

A contractor can install your shipping container home in as little as 90 days. This is notably quick compared to a traditional home build, which can take more than a year (providing there aren’t permitting or construction delays that make the wait even longer). For the quickest installation, choose a prefab container home.
