In business since 1957...Home improvement products has been improving washington homes. Windows siding and fencing are our mainstays. Kitchen and bath remodeling are projects typically held out for clients that know us and prefer our work. 100% financing is available through a wide selection of lenders. We take care of the paperwork to make it easy. Lifetime warranties on most products we sell and install.

"We used H.I.P. for replacing all (10) windows in our home new high efficiency windows. Steve was very professional, yet personable in all our dealings, from the original meeting to follow up after the job was completed. The crew that did the installation was exceptional. They were prompt, courteous, and did an amazing job with the detail work. We were pleased with how quickly they were able to complete the job without compromising their work. The debris was picked up and removed at the end of each day. The windows themselves look wonderful and so far are performing as expected. We weren’t sure about having windows replaced in January but they were able to accomplish the job with very little disruption to our routine. Thank you Steve and Max for a job well done."

Animal Fencing questions, answered by experts

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.

Removing fence posts that are set in concrete is something you can't do by hand. You will need an excavator, a strong post-puller, or a jackhammer. If you plan on recycling the concrete base, you may be able to cut the post out with a jackhammer and then set the new post in the existing base. However, it's usually better to remove both the fence post and concrete together. Due to the weight of concrete, you will need a hydraulic removal tool.

When it comes to materials, wire fences are the cheapest option. The average cost for a 150-foot wire fence is $1,350. The next cheapest material is chain-link, followed by wood.

As far as the style of fence, smaller, less private fences are cheaper than large, elaborate fences that block your whole yard. That’s why split-rail fences are the cheapest option for wooden fences. They cost roughly $10 to $30 per linear foot.

Green branches are more flexible and easier to work with, but they'll shrink as they dry, which can loosen your fence weave over time—so you'll need to weave them extra tight to account for shrinkage. Some species, particularly willow, may also try to sprout when used green. For these reasons, it’s typically easiest to use branches that have dried for a week or two.

Yes, installing a picket fence is a manageable DIY project for homeowners with basic tools and some patience. The process involves marking the fence line, digging post holes, setting the posts, and attaching horizontal rails and pickets. However, precision is key to ensure the fence is straight and sturdy, which can be challenging for beginners. If the fence line is long, the ground is uneven, or you’re working with more complex materials like metal or composite, hiring a pro may be a better option.
