These are pros. I called Bowie and talked to Rick Dunnihoo yesterday afternoon. Luckily they had a two hour opening the next day. I met Jim at the building and the job was done in an hour and a half. So in less than one day from the first contact the job was done and my tenant had the lights he needed. That's service. I am sure they would be just as responsive on a larger job. Call Rick and see what he can do for you.

Chuck Cubine is in charge of sales for Bowie Electric. He was awesome from start to finish. He always returned my calls promptly and even answered some questions for me that did not directly involve his services. If I needed something he was right there and happily so. I believe he used to be out in the field as an electrician for Bowie. Ron and Jeff were the main guys on my project. They were both awesome. They really seemed to care about what they were doing. They caused minimal plaster damage. I didn't even need a plaster repair person to come in. I worked with them closely to avoid this by capping one outlet as I felt there were plenty in the room in question. I was living in the house during this rewire. I am rather a minimalist so not much had to be moved around for them to get to where they needed to go. There was a glitch that caused some breakers to flip after they were done and gone but they arranged coming out ASAP and we trouble shot the issue and everything is just fine. I now consider them my electricians should I need something.

We got several bids to replace the older wiring in out house. Bowie's pricing was in line with the other contractors and we liked that their solutions to a few problems seemed well thought out and uncomplicated. The electricians started when they said they would, finished when they said they would and also left the house very clean. I also felt like they made an effort to do as little cutting into the walls as possible.
Description of Work: Bowie Electric replaced all of the knob and tube wiring in our house. They also added exterior outlets and an exterior motion light.

Extremely well. Very professional. Refreshing to find someone who is skilled, quick. and professional. The only stumble was when I called to pay the bill, they didn't want to take my Visa, saying that there would be an additional charge since the bill was over $500. By the time I got around to finding my check book; which I seldom use anymore, I had incurred a late charge which was cheaper than the service fee....but still...dampened the experience somewhat but I'd invite them back in a heart beat with my checdk book in hand this time.

We got their name from a colleague at work who had their whole house rewired, and were very happy with their service. The technician, Steve (and his partner) arrived on time, were very neat in their work, cleaned up after themselves. Chuck and Arne were fantastic - their customer service was top notch. When a city inspector was going to come by to check the work, Arne even bugged the city office to give me a call with their ETA. (they don't normally do that from what I understand.) The one snag we had, after the work was completed, was that the inspector discovered that the service wire going into the panel was undersized for the upgraded capacity. The wiring was very old, the markings had rubbed off, so it was very hard to determine (even for the inspector) what the wire gauge actually was. Bowie came back, verified that the size was too small, and replaced the service wiring so that it was the correct size for the new panel. Also, for the new receptacles in the kitchen, Steve had cut the holes too large, so when the faceplate got put on, you could still see the hole. I was a little worried about this, but after talking to them, they said sometimes old plaster walls can crumble more than you expect them to, and Arne shipped me out some oversized faceplates at no charge to cover up the damage.
Description of Work: We had about half of our 900 sq.ft. house rewired. The wiring was from the early 1900s and the panel had old plug-in fuses. They replaced the existing panel with an 125 amp main breaker panel, installed ground rods, and installed a 30 amp circuit to the water heater. They put in 5 GFCI receptacles and rewired 6 other receptacles.

Blake, a manager, picked up the phone. HE gave me a thoughtful answer, we talked 5 minutes, which allowed me to keep moving as opposed to waiting for a call back. I also learned this company does work with condo assns, which in my experience involves extra time due to multiple parties on a board. I hope to hire this company when our condo assn discusses this issue. And I like this is a medium-size company. I don't want to get lost in a big company and I don't want to wait for a returned phone call when a small company has no one available to the phone. I've called 3 electric companies, only this company picked up the phone and answered my question.

They were very very nice and responsive to our need for a bid. They came out and made recommendations based on what we were asking for that were a little different than what we wanted. We felt good about that. It took quite a while to send the bid though; about 10 days. That was disappointing and their bid was quite high.

They did a fine job. There were two workers and they worked quickly and efficiently. There was very little discourse between them during the day when they weren't having lunch. They finished the 4 1/2 day job 1 day early. They were very adaptable to requests during the job to have more outlets and wiring put in (we were charged for this of course, but there was no resentment on their part). My only complaint is that they are expensive. We could have gotten a cheaper bid (by $500-750 less) but I am not sure that the work would have been as good or as quickly finished. I would be happy to use them again.
Description of Work: Half of the electrical system in our 1926 Bungalow had been updated 10 years before but when we bought the house we found a lot of old knob-and-tube wiring. Also, there were too few outlets. They updated everything with modern Romex, put in some more outlets and installed several light fixtures.

Our new stove has a 4-prong plug, and our old stove was 3-prong. We wanted to bring the old outlet up to code by dropping a new line from our fuse box to serve as the ground. While the fuse box and outlet locations are not far from each other, the only access to either is in the crawl space under our home. It is not a very tall crawl space, and of course cobwebby, dirty, and we've had to put traps down there for rodents, so it's not the funnest place to work. The technician did not complain and went about his work diligently anyway. The technician spent almost exactly the amount of time the dispatcher had estimated the job would take, and only had to make one small hole in our wall (which is hidden by the stove anyway). He was cheerful throughout the job and worked efficiently to complete it.

Overall, we were happy with the service. We had to be out of town while they completed the rewiring, and they did an excellent job without our supervision. One of the employees (Chuck) came to our home to give us a free estimate. We explained to him what we wanted as we walked through the house. We received the proposal soon after and decided to cut back on some of the work because it was more expensive than we had hoped. Bowie (specifically Chuck) worked with us to revise the statement of work and gave us a new quote. Doing this did not seem like an inconvenience to them, they were happy to work with us. They completed the work while we were gone and also had the inspector inspect the work. There was one thing that the inspector requested them to do, which was a simple procedure that didn't prevent us from passing the inspection. When we came home, there was no dust because they cleaned up their mess. There were holes in the wall, which we expected - there was no surprise. We were pleased that the holes were all uniform size, which made it easier to repair. Bowie also accepted payment in 2 installations, which was before and after the service. I liked that I could trust this company, they were helpful, polite, and responsive. Yes, they were about $1000 more expensive than the 1 other contractor we had give us a quote, but we had heard good things about Bowie and who knows if the other contractor was underestimating. My one and only complaint was that I thought they were going to replace the receptacles in our basement room that had a more updated wiring, but I admit that I never asked them the question of whether or not those specific receptacles were going to be changed. As a layperson who knows nothing about electrical terminology, I couldn't tell if the proposal included that room. All in all, I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: We had a "125 am service & rewire circuits" completed in our 1949 home. Bowie changed the wiring from knob and tube to Romex, replaced the outlets with the 3 prong outlets, added gfc outlets where they belonged, changed the connection to the electrical pole, added/replaced the circuit breaker box, got the permit to conduct the service, and they also put everything back together (e.g., they put back the light fixtures that they had to remove).

It took a long time to find the problem because a junction box was hidden. I remembered this from when we had our kitchen remodeled. They checked everything first before they cut a hole in the ceiling. They were here for one and a half days from start to finish (about a total of 4 hours - sometimes with 2 men).
Description of Work: Overhead lights in our old home stopped working on the ground floor. After several hours of troubleshooting, I could not trace the problem. Bowie eventually found a hidden junction box in my kitchen ceiling with a loose wire. Then moved the junction over to an assessable fixture so we don't have to go through that again.

Overall, I thought that they were very good. They were very fast and also very efficient. They seemed to be very professional and so did their rates. They even took the time to train the workers. They showed them how to change plugs and switches, that probably saved me tons of money in the long run. That is very unusual for a contractor to do that sort of thing. The charge is a blur to me, but I do think it was reasonable.
Description of Work: I have a 1920 home and I hired Bowie to check all the electrical inside of it. They made some changes in the wiring, changes in the fuses, and checked the basement wiring to make sure it was all up to code. I am not sure exactly what changes were made.
