A Better Roofing Company

Weird experience in that they sent someone out to do the measuring of the roof, but that was the last we saw of anyone. They sent an estimate in the mail and they sent a follow-up in the mail, but I never received a call or e-mail. Took the soft-sell to new heights.

Overall the job went very well. I noted a portion of our gutter cap had been bent where the work ladder had contacted it and I am told it will be repaired by the company. They are not accepting or demanding payment until this has happened. Their trouble-shooter Michael has been very responsive and he was the person that delayed payment (and no up front money was required for this roof replacement) until the problem has been corrected. I am confident that the company will make good on the gutter cap damage that was inflicted.

We scheduled the appointment and ran into only one glitch, the scheduled start date was delayed by one week, due to a scheduling error by one of the owners Kurt. And I was very impressed when he called to honestly explain that the scheduling error was his and as the owner, he holds his entire team to the highest standards. This was likely personally humbling, he admitted the error and made an adjustment to our final bill. The crew arrived on-time and we could tell that they have worked together for a while. They were professional, happy and truly showed that they enjoyed their work and each other. My wife and son who were home the entire time. noted that the crew did their work with joy. "Often we could hear singing, laughing and great teamwork". They literally brightened our neighborhood for the week. At the end of each day, they completely cleaned up everything. The dumpster was emptied daily and it even looked professional with a professional cover and the name of the company on it. Clearly the team was proud of their work and it showed. We have a large roof with many angles and it was completely finished by the end of the day on the 3rd day. Wow. Just today, less than a week after the job was complete, Michael the foreman came by for a final walk through. What was a moment I wont soon forget, he simply invited me to sit down near the peak of the front of our new roof and he answered all my questions as we looked across the Puget Sound. The view was magnificent and it felt like we were old friends. In the end when the final bill was complete, I was told the discount from Kurt was not to be used for just anything, Mike told me that Kurt said that I had to make sure I treated my wife to a nice dinner. And we went out this evening. Our experience with "A Better Roofing" was better than we expected. They made a personal connection, they knew the customer. They made it fun and they were professional, clean and complete. Two days after the roof was complete it rained and I walked the entire attic with my headlamp. It was completely dry and cool from the "ridge vent". The only surprise was a section of our roof called a "dead valley" a relatively flat area of the roof design from the original construction that could be a most likely place for water to pool. EPDM was used and the process for application was completely explained to me that it should withstand the same lifespan as the 30 year roof. A great experience with "A BETTER ROOFING" without "Angies List" we would have never found them. I just wish I could post the pictures from before and after. Thank YOU!

They were fast, professional and overall a joy to work with. They did exactly as they promised. No damage to my beautiful landscaping. Started and completed the project in one day. When they left you could not tell that they had been there.

Good estimate. Quick set-up to appointment to roof. Came a day late due to problems with a previous job, but left a day earlier than promised - wow. Left the place cleaner than when they arrived. Took care to make all arrangements for plants, garden, etc. we specified. Thorough walk-through afterwards. Well-done all around.

I cannot express my appreciation enough for A Better Roofing Co. We were in the closing process of buying our first house and everything about the inspection was good, except the roof. There were 3 to 4 layers, missing shingles, degranulation; it was awful. I called Better Roofing for a bid (as well as another reputable roofer) and they easily won the contract. Price was excellent, service was top tier, and I felt I could trust them to be honest and perform a great job. I booked them for 2 weeks after closing on the house. Our home loan was through FHA and naturally they have strict inspectors. They required the roof to be completed prior to close and legally, the sellers needed to pay for it. Well, this was an awful process of trying to make this work and Kurt at Better Roofing bent over backwards, did somersaults, and jumped through flaming hoops all at the same time to help us get it done and approved by FHA. Better Roofing went WAY beyond the normal service expectation and in reality, was the reason why we were able to finally close on time on this house. The roof was completed prior to close and looks fantastic. The job itself was done quickly and without disturbance to the future neighbors or the property. I can't recommend these guys any higher. It's always a good idea to get a few bids, but I highly recommend going with A Better Roofing Co. in the end.

They did excellent work. They were professional, timely, and costs were reasonable. On time and costs according to contract. Great company to work with!

Fantastic work. A Better Roofing was in the middle of four estimates which ranged from $9500 to $20000 (yeah no kidding, 20k? do I look like I have McMansion money to burn?! w** lol). We chose them based on friends' experiences, Angie's List, and a walk-by of a couple of their roofs in our neighborhood. There was no dicking around on the price -- what they estimated is exactly what we paid. The estimator (Alan) was low-key, friendly, and didn't upsell -- as a matter of fact, he actually *downsold* some options, stating that they were unnecessary and took the time to explain why. There was no pressure to commit to a date after the estimate was delivered, although they did extend a 10-day-from-estimate-signing discount. Materials-delivery guys were remarkably fast in unloading the materials and put it where we asked. Dumpster delivery guy carefully placed the dumpster within an inch (literally!) of the precisely measured box we taped off on our small driveway. Installation crew (led by Mauricio) was focused and fast. Our neighbors had their roof done a couple of months prior, and it was interesting to note how much faster A Better Roofing did on our virtually identical roof. Mauricio and team's concern for our plants was exceptional, and their daily cleanup made it look like no one was ever there. Even a month past, we have yet to find a single piece of construction material anywhere on our property. In addition, while they had to take one day off for torrential rain (and no, not a drop made it into our attic during that break day), they did work in the rain and cold the next day. Post-install, supervisor (Mike) was a great guy to talk with about final questions and exhorted us to call him anytime work would be done that would alter or touch the roof -- he indicated A Better Roofing company would be happy to come out for free and ensure any work done would not damage their craftsmanship. Now that's classy! Highly recommended.

They did a good job and they were responsive to some follow up concerns I had. They cleaned up well after the roof project was completed. They were very up front and honest about the bid/project.

A Better Roofing gave me the most information during the initial bid process. (I got 2 bids.) Both companies were similar in price but with the additional information I received from A Better Roofing concerning the types and range of colors for my new roof, it was easy to make my selections and more forward with them. They arrived as planned. They were unobtrusive, quick, and left little trace of their presence besides a lovely new roof. To no one's surprise, my skylight required a second trip to stop the leak. They handled this trouble spot quickly and professionally. This company is a pleasure to work with.

They responded quickly to my request for an estimate. I needed two estimates from them; for a portion of the roof and the whole roof. They gave me the estimates and talked to me about the condition of the roof. I was getting estimates from several companies, and one of the other vendors alerted me to a problem that would affect the job. I called A Better Roofing company, and they sent someone out to examine the problem and tell me how they would deal with it. Their crew came on schedule, and worked through bad weather to finish the job. They cleaned up every night, and after the job was finished. This was a bad roof to do: it was a tear off, and some of the wood was rotten. They did a good job explaining what they needed to do, and my options for the roofing materials. We have gotten several compliments from neighbors about the roofing job.

Work was done over a year ago, but we found an issue. They couldn't have been nicer -- guy came out right away and agreed to fix it within 2 days and free of charge. As pleasant as could be; no hassle at all. The quality of a company isn't just how well they do up front -- it's about how they fix anything that does come up. These guys get A+++++. I will recommend them any time.

I have no evidence to suggest that A Better Roofing Company would do a poor job on the actual installation (nor any to suggest they would do it well either) but the "distant" approach they took - no contact after the standard letter was sent - coupled with the extremely high price quoted didn't leave me with a sense of comfort about spending a large sum of money with them on this project.

Called them for a repair on a roof they had put on 8 years ago. Michael came out and plugged the holes in the skylights for no charge. Excellent continued service from this company

I first got an estimate. They came on time (at lunch). They told me that the last person did not put a rain/ice sheet underneath which is why it was leaking. The grade of my roof dictated that a rain/ice sheet was required. Without it the rain was seeping up under the shingles and getting inside what seemed to be random spots. I agreed to the price. They came out a few weeks latter late morning around 9:30AM and were done by 4:00PM before I got back from work (neighbor told me the details). They had 3-4 Hispanics on the team. I went up on the roof and inspected the work. It was extremely clean. They also installed 4 extra vents on my house without extra charge. All tar areas around the vents and skylight looked perfectly clean and sealed. A month later after a large rain, I noticed a leak near my skylight. I called them up, one of the manager's came out to meet me the next day (on time at lunch). He was up on the roof for about 10-20 minutes trying to make the roof leak with a hose. He was unsuccessful. Then he noticed the skylight seal looked a little cracked and weathered. He told me to seal it up with some silicone and see if that solves it. 3-4 months later, with plenty of hard rains, I have not seen a single leak. Great company. The reason I did not go with Home Depot is because of all the horror stories with quality and service. I'm very satisfied with A Better Roofing.

The tear-off, installation, and clean-up went great. Unfortunately, there was a procedural ommission that occurred - when it was realized a couple of days later and brought to the contractor's attention, they stepped-up and corrected the ommission. [Note: I only point this out to commend them. As a commercial construction project manager, I realize that errors happen - but it is a good contractor that addresses them immediately. Because of this I have NO reservations of using them again or referring them to my friends. Class act!]

He paid for our first month of Angie's List so we could see the good reviews he had on the site, and he took it off of our bill. I felt very good about this roofer. They arrived exactly when they said they would, they went right to work. They worked neatly and cleanly, cleaning up as they went. They had to take three layers of shingle off the roof, and they had to haul in a dumpster to do it, which they put in our driveway. As an example of what I thought was exemplary, they cleaned up everything off the ground. Nothing of theirs was left, not a nail, not a shingle anywhere. It was a two day project, they started one day and finished the second day. As soon as they left, at 3:30 or 4:00, I ran down just a couple of blocks to the local Safeway store to do some quick shopping for dinner, and by the time I got back, the dumpster had already been removed. They had the dumpster gone and out of the way at most an hour or an hour and a half after they were done with the job. I was very impressed that it vanished so quickly.We got three other estimates and this roofer had a bid about half as expensive as the others.It's been a couple of months, but the roof looks wonderful. I'd want to go a year or two before saying they did a perfect job, but so far it looks excellent.

They did a great job. I liked that they were able to get it done in one day.

A very helpful company, wish all residential contractors were as easy to work with as A Better Roofing Co. I needed to do some electrical work in the attic that does not have access. I thought I could do it with a couple of accesses cut into the roof. They provided some tar paper, plastic tarp and a staple gun to allow me to protect the house between the time that I did my work and the time they started. Turns out that I ended up removing the roofing that covered 8 sheets of sheathing and the sheathing to access all of the wiring that I needed to work on. This caused me to finish a few hours after they started. They didn't have a problem with it and even offered to finish nailing the sheathing down when I ran out of nails! The house has three ridges on it. Two have sharp peaks and one doesn't. The longer one of the sharp peaks had about 1 - 2 inches of the plastic from the ridge venting exposed. I pointed this out and they fixed it with in a week. I really appreciated there payment policy. No deposit and no payment until the job is complete to your satisfaction.

The pricing was fine. The salesman and workmanship was good. A Mexican crew came out and did the job, but they did not communicate well. They were not very good at speaking English and as a result the customer service was affected. I also felt that they needed a little closer supervision and could have done a better job cleaning up. I asked them more than once to clean up something, but they did not do it. I can?t blame them for not being on time because the weather was bad.

The haul is a little bit long to come out to Vashon and then to get from the main house to the cottage. There are challenges both with the travel and the physical jobs, both of the homes have steep roofs. The crews all came out right on time and they got everything done in a timely manner. They were out to my home in bad weather at six in the morning to do one of the roofs. They took the energy to protect everything and make sure that they cleaned up everything. I could barely tell that they had come out. There was an usually bad winter last year and the wind came and drove the rain into an odd place. We called them up and they sent another gentleman out the next day and they fixed the problem and were done. The prices were just wonderful. They did just what we wanted and needed while keeping their prices low. Everyone we interacted with was courteous and pleasant to work with. They were very organized with all of the subcontracted work such as arranging for the trash bin for the old roofing. We had a wonderful experience with A Better Roofing Company.

I picked three companies from Angie's List, and one roofing company fell through the cracks and after I had my roof redone the representative from the company called me and was very apologetic and acknowledged that my request for information did not get answered, so I was impressed at how she reacted. The other two companies, one of which was A Better Roofing Company, came out and gave me their sales pitch. I thought both companies were pretty decent. A went with A Better Roofing Company basically on price and, maybe a little bit more, likeability by the sales person. The sales person was from England and quite nice.

Excellent all the way around!! They were on time, friendly, thorough, communicative, and their cleanup was spotless. Their bid was also 50% less than one we received from another company. Highly recommended!

Great crew, very friendly and efficient; the General Manager is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.

They did a very good job with the roof replacement. We had some issues with the venting pipes, but the roof installation I was satisfied with. They told me they would be able to repair the venting pipes but they did not. The clean up was thorough.
