"Hired Luis on a Saturday and he came out on Monday and had the projects done in 2 days. The best estimate of 5 companies and most knowledgeable of all the contractors that came to our house. We had sod installed in 3 yards, a concrete patio, and concrete steps made for our garage. Luis went above and beyond! Not only did he replace and raise some of our sprinklers, but he also helped us pick out the type of grass to install and the finish on the concrete that would look best for the patio. We had to leave for a while and had mentioned we had to pull the tarp out of the pool and when we came back Luis already had pulled it out for us! None of this was in the estimate, yet Luis took it upon himself to help us out at no charge. We are hiring Luis again to do some inside construction. If you want a contractor that calls back, shows up, is extremely knowledgeable, does excellent work, and provides excellent customer service then call Luis! Thanks, Luis! Michael and Julie"

"Christopher was amazing. Showed up on time, worked ALL day, went above and beyond in rebuilding my deck - doubling it in size and painting it also, at NO extra cost from his estimate. I would 100% recommend him for any job, and will have him back to do more for me. His estimate was half of two others. Can't say enough about how happy I am with Christopher, owner of Tiny Living Golden Concept. My search for a fair, honest, reliable handyman to help me with my aging house is over."

"The owner Tyler was very personable and was always communicative and listened to what my needs were. Him and his crew did an excellent job! They built me a driveway, that is beautiful, and will last many years! Honest and prompt is another way to describe them!"

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

It is almost always more affordable to buy an existing home than to build a new one. Building a home involves numerous costs, including labor, permits, inspections, utility hookups, and brand-new materials, finishes, and appliances. Additionally, new construction loans can have higher interest rates than traditional mortgages, and property taxes on new homes are often higher, increasing long-term costs. An exception is a DIY house build, which can be cheaper than buying an existing home if you do the labor yourself. While building is generally more expensive, a new custom home offers complete control over the layout and design. Furthermore, new construction is typically worth more than a comparable pre-owned home and may provide a better return on investment if sold quickly.

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

The maximum size of a tiny home you can move depends on your state transportation guidelines, but the rule of thumb is a maximum of 400 square feet. However, as long as it falls within the local limits for traveling on public roadways, you should be good to hit the road.

Generally speaking, building a swing set is cheaper than buying a prefabricated one, but this assumes you have all the tools and knowledge to complete the project. The average cost to build a swing set is $514, but you should also factor in the time and effort it will require—if you don’t want to give up your weekend, it’s worth considering buying instead of building.

The term “cottage” is subjective, so there’s no rigid definition, but it generally refers to a small home with simple and purposeful architecture that embraces nature and focuses on charm over everything else. Cottages are typically 1 or 1 1/2-stories tall, usually with gabled roofs, and are built out of natural materials that help make the structure a part of the surrounding nature rather than something that stands out from it. A big part of what makes a cottage a cottage is the decor, which includes natural materials from the nearby area.
