Small jobs welcome

"Angie's List turned up Robin's Cleaning Service as a possible contractor for carpet cleaning. We went with her since she's independent and relatively local (Gretna). She came today, worked hard for over two hours to clean our Master BR and closet, lower staircase and roughly 1/4 of the lower living area, and did a lovely, attentive and thorough job for $225. Very pleasant--does carpets and other cleaning, painting, landscaping, mowing and pressure washing between morning and evening school bus driving for Gretna public schools (all three levels). Just a really sweet lady whom we enjoyed getting to know. If you have odd jobs, give her a chance. Robin Hall, 434-728-0529, is highly recommended! "Within an hour of entering my needs on HoneAdvisor, I had a follow-up call by Carpet World and a commitment to have someone at my house that day. Although it was late in the day, two very courteous workers came, expertly fixed the problem. Note before Caroet World, I’d tried for months to find someone to come and address my carpet issue. Carpet World was terrific."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Smaller carpet installations may take less than a day, while full-home installations can take several days. However, your carpet installation timeline will ultimately depend on a few factors, including the number of rooms you’re renovating, the project’s total square footage, and the carpet type. Installation will take longer if your carpet company needs to repair your subfloor or remove old tile flooring.

Yes, nylon carpets are suitable for homes with allergies due to their hypoallergenic properties. Nylon fibers are resistant to mold and mildew growth, minimizing allergen accumulation in the carpet. Additionally, nylon carpets are often treated to repel moisture and stains, further reducing the risk of allergens and promoting a healthier indoor environment for allergy sufferers.

It is not recommended to install or stretch a carpet without a power stretcher. Skipping essential tools like a power stretcher and a knee kicker will likely result in an improper installation, leaving you with wrinkles, creases, and an unappealing final look. While a knee kicker can provide some limited stretching for thinner carpets, it is not a proper substitute. Attempting to stretch a carpet by hand or with homemade tools can also shorten its lifespan. For the best results, you should buy or rent a stretcher. If you do not want to use a stretcher, it is better to hire a professional for the installation.

Costs depend on carpet type, labor rates, and additional services like padding or transitions.

If the stairs are already covered in carpet, you will need to remove the old carpet and possibly the carpet pad. Any damage to the stairs like cracks, loose boards, or creaky treads may also need to be repaired. You may also want to sand and refinish or paint wood stairs before installing a carpet runner.
