In addition to roofing, we install vinyl and fiber cement siding and a wide range of gutter products. We look forward to informing and helping you with your next new roof or re-roofing project.

"My wife called to have get a quote for a minor leak in our roof. We never ended up scheduling an appointment because we decided to go with another roofing company. A week ago we received an invoice in the mail telling us to pay $182 because a guy came over and apparently did the work without our consent or approval. He charged us that amount of money to reset a nail which wasn't even the cause of the leak. It turns out after having someone from another roofing company actually come inspect the attic that that we need to have a pipe boot replaced. I tried calling to ask about this but I keep getting told the guy I need to speak with isn't there. I wouldn't recommend this company they seem to do shady business."

A gambrel roof and a mansard roof are similar in that they are both hipped roofs, meaning they have double slopes—one steep and one more gradual above the steep slope. The difference is that a gambrel roof has a double slope on only two sides of the structure, whereas a mansard roof has a double slope on all four sides.

Roof underlayment usually lasts as long as the roofing material that covers it, as it’s not directly exposed to the elements. In most cases, roofing companies will replace the underlayment each time they install a new roof. In some cases, particularly with slate, clay, or certain metal roofs that can last 50 to 100 years, your underlayment may require replacement within that timeframe, especially if you start to notice roof leaks.

You can replace a roof in the winter, though it’s not the most popular time to do so. The biggest drawback of winter roofing work is the weather. Snow and ice make for dangerous, slippery working conditions. Plus, shingles can only be installed in temperatures above 40 to 45 degrees. 

The best time to replace a roof is in the spring or fall when the weather is mild. However, you can likely save some money by booking the job in the winter off-season, when roofers have more availability. 

You cannot replace granules that have been lost off shingles. The granule embedding process is part of shingle manufacturing, and once the bond holding the granules to the shingles has been lost, the granules are gone for good. The short answer is, yes, cedar shakes do last longer than asphalt shingles. But the long answer is, it depends on maintenance. Asphalt shingles last about 20 years, while cedar shingles typically last about 30 years with proper maintenance. If they are very well maintained and installed in an area with a mild, drier climate, they can last up to 50 years.
