"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

Customers say: True professional

"I had a relatively small but important gutter caulking job that had to be addressed before freezing rain/weather struck. Ethan told me he was presently quite busy; could he address my problem later in December? I said, NO, I have to get this done before freezing sets in. He asked for a minute to recheck his calendar and then gave me a morning visit much to my liking. He then sent two guys over, on time and fully fleshed out with the gear to do an awesome job. And these men, Ray and Jacob, were wonderful (industrious, clean, tidy, professional in everyday) workers. They knocked the job out in no time -- a walk-off home run. I am a retired Army man and my expectations run high. Mind In The Gutter blew away every one of my needs and they did it quickly and VERY REASONABLY PRICED. Many thanks to Ethan and his crew. I WILL RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MY FAMILY AND CLOSEST FRIENDS -- and to all readers."

I am an Ex food industry worker that was fed up with the grind and hustle. I have started cleaning houses, gutters, junk removal, yards, move ins and outs. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. My dream is to make this my full time job to help take care of my wife and kids.

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, professionals can spot and rectify downspout issues such as clogs, leaks, or disconnections during cleaning. They ensure proper water flow, protecting the building's foundation and preventing water damage or erosion.

To clean the tops of gutter guards, use a soft-bristle brush or a leaf blower to remove debris like leaves, twigs, or dirt. For stubborn grime, spray the guards with a garden hose, directing water downward to avoid forcing debris into the gutter. If the guards are removable, take them off and rinse thoroughly before reattaching. Regular cleaning, especially during fall or after storms, will help maintain their effectiveness.

Whether or not you can use a pressure washer to clean your gutter guards depends on the type of gutter guard you have and the strength of the pressure washer. Most gutter guards can handle a low-pressure setting but check first. If you’re unsure if your gutter guard is designed for pressure washing, check your manufacturer’s instructions, ask a pro, or use a garden hose to clean the gutter guard instead. As gutter guards age, they become less resistant to the strong forces of a power washer, so treat older gutter guards with more care.

It’s best to schedule regular gutter cleanings before there’s a major issue, but sometimes life gets in the way. Luckily, a few telltale signs will let you know when to clean your gutters ASAP:

  • You notice built-up debris in your gutters.

  • Your gutters overflow with water when it rains.

  • Water doesn’t readily flow from your downspouts.

  • Your gutters are damaged or visibly leaking.

  • You notice evidence of leaking along your roof, siding, yard, or pavement.

  • Your gutters have pulled away from your roofing or exterior walls.

  • You see water damage on your soffits or fascia.

  • You have weeds growing in your gutters.

  • You start to see ants or other insects around your gutters or in your home.

  • You suddenly have issues with leaks in your crawl space or basement.

Gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, in the spring and in the fall, to remove the debris from trees that can clog the eavestroughs and downspouts. Debris like leaves, twigs, and seed pods can build up and cause your gutters to overflow, potentially causing damage to your roof and foundation. Water backing up under the shingles can rot the edge of your roofline. Overflow water falling next to your foundation can end up leaking into your basement or crawl space.
