"In a cluttered Boston market for tile installation services, I asked 5-6 service providers to submit bids on a time sensitive job in the heart of Fenway. Metropolitan Tile and specifically Dan Ngyan distinguished himself from the other vendors from the begining of the bid process. My decision to hire Metropolitan Tile was not specifically based on their bid but based on the trust and confidence that Dan showed and expressed while first on-site. Needless to say I was not disappointed with the work or their committment to complete the job on a very aggressive schedule which included working through a weekend. My recommendation is unconditional."

"Once I sent her all the measurements, it took her a little while to get the options back to me.  Overall, they're good designs.  However, they're very simplistic and give general ideas for space planning.  I was hoping to have a better idea for sizes of furniture for the space and some variations on staging.
Jill was very responsive when I did have a question.  I'm not sure how helpful it is to have a virtual design done.  If we lived in similar cities, I'd probably use her again for help with additional designs.

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The grout shade you choose comes down to personal taste and preference. A darker grout will give you a more dramatic and noticeable contrast with the tile around it; however, lighter grout helps create a more uniform look when blending the colors together. Additionally, a darker grout combined with a patterned tile could be overwhelming to the eye, while lighter grout makes the pattern stand out as the main focus.

The best trowel for penny tile is a 3/16-inch-by-5/32-inch V-notch trowel. Because of the small size of the penny tile, you want a trowel with small notches that can lay a thin layer of mortar on the surface you’re tiling. If the notches are too wide, you risk applying too thick of a layer of mortar, and it can squeeze out between the penny tiles.

Grouting hearth tiles is one of the most important steps. It seals the tiles so heat doesn’t transfer under the tiles so easily, which can be dangerous. For this reason, heat-resistant grout is a must. Grout also prevents dust, dirt, and any other material from gathering between your tiles. If this happens and those buildups are flammable, a fire could start between the tiles.

Professional installation ensures a uniform, durable surface, and proper sealing, and guarantees workmanship quality, preventing future issues linked to water damage or instability.

Bathrooms are naturally moisture-rich environments, so choose a durable, water-resistant tile for your tub surround. Porcelain and ceramic are two popular options that are also quite affordable. Glass is another good option that’s also low-maintenance—you just need a glass cleaner like you would use on the bathroom mirror. Natural stone tile is porous, but it’s still a viable option if you choose it in a glazed version.
