On 10/23/14, the pipe used to connect the catalytic converter failed in the mountains in New Mexico. I had to drive for over an hour to get back to the small town I was staying in; the following morning, I had to drive for another hour to a shop in Santa Fe for repairs. What should have been a simple repair (replacing the broken pipe) was complicated because incorrect bolts had been used in the exhaust flange; bolts had to be tapped out and replaced, along with removing the broken pipe and welding a new one in place. The repair took the better part of the day, costing me a day's work and making it necessary to juggle my hotel reservations and travel plans. It was also noted that the u-joints were about to fall out of my truck - it would have been great to lose a drive-train on some mountain road....or a highway. When I returned to Texas, I contacted Bill Cabaj, Allstate owner, on 10/30/14. I explained the problem with the pipe/bolts and texted him pictures of the failed/incorrect parts and of the completed repair. I also mentioned that his shop had failed to service my transmission & differential, and that two other drive belts and the u-joints had to be replaced in Santa Fe - money that his shop could have collected had they thoroughly examined my truck as requested. I asked for a refund of the pipe repair only - $189.95. Bill stated that they subcontract exhaust work and he would have to talk to his subcontractor. I waited until 11/5/14 and did not hear from Allstate; I called and left a message for Bill - my call was not returned. On 11/10/14 I called again, left a message inquiring whether any action would be taken regarding a refund and asked for a call back. I have not been contacted. I can only conclude that my <$200.00 repair expense due to a faulty part/repair is less important to Allstate than my >$2000.00 initial repair was. VERY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE.
11/20/14 Bill called and we discussed; he had contacted the subcontractor and expressed concern that the converter might have been affected by the high altitude (mountains) and said he would like to take a look at it to make sure it is ok. He also stated that he would mail a check to refund my out-of-pocket repair in New Mexico. I stated that I've had no problems with the truck since the New Mexico repair and we concluded the converter is probably ok and doesn't need to be checked at this time.
On 12/1/14 I called to check the status of the reimbursement; Bill said the check would be mailed that day.
On 12/3/14 I received a check for $190.00. I appreciate the reimbursement and the concern for proper operation of the converter.

The owner himself (Jose Rodriguez) came out to measure the driveway and to give me a bid. He was very courteous and knowledgable. He brought a book of pictures (his website helped) from which I didn't see any perfect gate. So I requested a custom gate that included cedar fence pickets, an arched top, and the whole thing opens at a weird angle. After leaving, he promptly emailed his bid to me, which was put together well, with the cost breakdown by labor and part.I had to make a partial down payment to get him started on welding the custom gate, which made me nervous, but as promised, his crew showed up 2 weeks later to install the post on which the gate would swing. Jose stated on that date that they have to let the post settle in its concrete for another few days before adding the weight of the gate. As promised, a week later, they arrived with a beautiful custom made gate that fit perfectly. They installed everything in one day, painted it, and secured the motor using electrical conduit that is watertight. It has now been nearly 2 years and the gate has worked flawlessly ever since.I even recommended Rodriguez to my next door neighbor who hired them to put in a very nice custom metal and wood privacy fence along their back property boundary. They were satisfied as well.I only had 2 problems during the installation. One is that while they were digging out the hole for the gate post, they dumped the dirt in my ditch along the side of the house, which is meant for drainage. I spoke to them about it, and they moved the dirt to a different spot immediately. The other thing is that they smashed 2 fence pickets on my nearby privacy fence, which they claimed happened when the wheelbarrow snagged as they drove it back and forth, dumping out the dirt. They did provide replacement boards, but I installed them because I built the fence and I'm quite particular about it."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/houston/rodriguez-ornamental-iron-wrks-reviews-2587903.htm"},"position":2}]}

Left my SUV at the shop for over two weeks; requested that transmission & rear end be serviced and truck inspected for anything that needed to be done as I travel and don't want to be on the road with auto problems. Neither the transmission nor the differential were serviced. On 10/23/14,...

FAQs for welding projects in Schulenburg, TX
Welding is the process of using extreme heat—and, sometimes, pressure—to attach two pieces of metal. In contrast, metal fabrication is a more involved process that can include welding, sheet metal work, bending, and other forms of metal manipulation. Metal fabrication is a large-scale project that may or may not involve welding, while welding is more often a step in larger fabrication projects.
The average cost to hire a welder is about $300, with an average rate ranging from $65 to $125 per hour, depending on their experience and the project type and size. Aside from labor costs, some other charges you’ll need to pay include the cost of the welding material and the cost of the shielding gas that makes welding possible and safe. When you’re interviewing welders for your work, you can ask for an estimate based on your project specifics. In some simple cases, like welding gas lines or common welding projects, local welders may charge a flat hourly rate with add-ons if necessary.
There are a few things you can ask welders before you hire them to get an idea of their experience and ability levels:
Are you licensed and certified?
How long have you been in the welding business?
Do you commonly do the type of welding I need?
Do you offer any kind of warranty for your work?
Do you charge by the hour or by the project?
How long do you expect my welding project to take?
What steps do you take to minimize errors in your work?
You should not do your own welding unless you have the proper training and experience. Most home electrical systems can only handle MIG welding, which creates weaker bonds than TIG welding and won’t work on certain metals or metal thicknesses. Both welding forms usually require the use of shielding gas, which can be dangerous to store at home. Additionally, welding machines create temperatures of over 3,000 degrees, and the sparks can blind you if you don’t have the proper equipment. As such, it’s usually better to hire a professional welder for your welding projects.
Some states require welders to be licensed and certified, while others don’t. However, it’s always a good idea to hire a licensed welder, regardless of requirements in your area, especially if you need welding for structural components of your home or gas lines. Licensed welders have gone through training and testing to prove their skills, so they’re less likely to make a mistake that could be detrimental to your home. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to determine whether your potential hire has a welding license.
