Don't call this guy on Sunday morning or after business hours, because his personal cell is also his business line. You'll wake him up, and he doesn't like that. Also, don't count on Robert showing up. I scheduled my appointment two days ago, and this morning I get a message that his truck is broken, with no offer for a reschedule. He told me to call someone else. If you're looking for someone to place traps, this may be a good route. If you're looking for someone who will take proactive measures to ensure that rodents don't return, look elsewhere. This guy just sets traps. No live catches. No carpentry to fix rodent entry points. No referrals to carpenters. He's pretty good at setting traps though, and also has a cool looking white outfit that he wears when onsite.
*UPDATE
In response to this company's most recent response, AJAX never told me they wouldn't service because of my "rudeness". He cancelled because of "car trouble". Is this professional service? NO.
AJAX, get a business line! When I call on Sunday, it's because I have an EMERGENCY! If you don't want to talk on Sunday morning, TURN OFF YOUR PHONE! If you don't want to work for me, then say so. There is no need to make up stories about your car troubles."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/houston/ajax-exterminating-reviews-2097819.htm"},"position":5},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"DAVID HORVITZ","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Nancy S."},"reviewBody":"Timeliness: Poor - Original estimate - 6 days (3 days carpentry, 3 days painting) Actual: six weeks Punctuality: Poor - The only time Mr. Horvitz was on time was to pick up the check at the end of the job. Along the way, all appointments for him and for workers to show up were missed/tardy. There were days when no one showed up after we were told they would. Workmanship: Below average - The carpentry was good, but the painting was very poor. It took four attempts to paint the interior door jamb - the first three did not include spackle and sanding; parts of the outside took at least two tries to get it right. There was an attempt to paint in the rain that left runny streaks... The painter only showed up after 5:30 pm, and told us it was because he had another ?day? job. Cleanliness:Poor - Part of the job included removal of the old gutters and facia. Wood debris, as well as nails, were left in the lawn. When the final spackling and sanding was being done, they did not remove nor cover a persian throw rug. No drop clothes were used. Sanding dust was not vacuumed. Professionalism: Poor - Mr. Horvitz did, repeatedly, ask if we were satisfied. The trouble was, he rarely came to the job site to inspect. When he finally did, we asked him if he was satisfied with the work - and he wasn?t. This led to two round of ?try again?. His workers called us two times asking for money as they hadn?t been paid. The agreement was 1/2 up front, 1/2 on completion. We made two interim payments "to help with payroll" -but still got the calls from the workers.Lastly, on the last day of the job, he added another 10% to cover things that we'd previously agreed would not be charged for things encountered but weren't in the original estimate. Recommendation: Caution - Mr. Horvitz came highly recommended from two people we know well. We may have caught him at a time he was overcommitted, or had other issues. He has, evidently, done very good work (in the past, for others), but, unfortunately, that wasn?t our experience. This job started out as a mission to fix a rotten smell that came and went under the kitchen island. I had several people tell me I was imagining things, but Jim and his plumber figured out quickly that we had an issue with the gas pipe under the kitchen floor. Once we determined that we had to rip up the floor and repair the gas line, Jim came up with several estimates to repair the line or to go in with an induction stove. Through out the estimate process, Jim was very responsive and had a sub come out and bid for each portion of the job. The total estimate was quite detailed and easy to understand and the final cost was just a bit higher as we ended up with more carpentry work than originally planned. I did cursory checks with people who have had similar jobs done and I think he was in the ballpark on cost for what we did, although I did not solicit multiple official bids for the job. By the time we figured out the scope, Jim had been to the house 5 or 6 times and I was pleased with his responsiveness and overall demeanor, so I gave him the job. The finished product is quite stunning and exactly what I wanted. The best part of working with Jim is that he is always on time, checks on progress and provided near-daily updates to me. He was patient in explaining all the things wrong with the current work, what was illegal, etc., and he called the office to schedule an estimate to have them completely redo the entire job. I am waiting on that estimate now. When he called into the office to get details on what I should do to move forward with the proper permits for the job, Wes even called the city permitting office for me to explain the situation. Overall, I couldn't be happier, and I look forward to working with them again.
Update - Work completed Jack installed conduit and several outlets on the patio, along with a new circuit for my deep freeze. (Hope I got the terms correct.) I sent Marcus two photos of the kitchen cabinetry and explained that there was no clearance to install pulls on the drawers at the inside corner of a kitchen. There were pulls already installed on the other drawers, so we could not do a routed edge to solve the problem. Perpendicular to the range was a run of drawers which was installed too close to the inside corner at 12". The drawers did not extend completely because they ran into the commercial style range and handle. The solution was to leave the range-side drawers as made, and on the wall perpendicular to the range, make a filler panel on the left, then put a full height door over the remaining opening and create pull out shelves behind them. My client also had a door with hinges in the study posing as an appliance garage to hide the recharging of small electronic devices. Marcus installed a hydraulic arm on the cabinet door; to make it stay in place as raised, as well as moved file cabinet rails to allow clearance for file tabs on drawers in the study that were too shallow for standard file racks. He also arranged for a plumber to disconnect and reconnect the gas range in order to do his cabinet work."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tx/austin/austin-doors-and-trim-reviews-2054997.htm"},"position":9},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Owens Custom Stucco","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TX","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Anthony D."},"reviewBody":"We are very satisfied with the way thework was completed and with the quality of the completed project. Contractor Service reviews from real Angi homeowners in Missouri City, TX
Fine, until Scott Anderson thought that I was supervising too much. So, he decided to quit before the project was completed which kind of ties in with his category of services: "carpentry-Unfinished". It was a shame, in that I had several other projects I could have used him for.

FAQs for contractor service projects in Missouri City, TX
Generally, general contractors charge between $50 and $150 hourly, though not every contractor charges by the hour. If charging based on the project, you can expect a markup of 10% to 20% of the construction cost. You can expect to pay between $300 and $500 daily if charged by the day.
General contractors are the ones that coordinate home construction projects. They are in charge of the day-to-day oversight of the subcontractors to ensure that the project is completed on time and to resolve problems as they arise. General contractors:
Complete pre-construction planning, both with the customer and crew
Provide realistic cost estimates
Develop construction timelines
Ensure deadlines are met
Acquire permits as needed
Purchase supplies and materials
Before hiring a general contractor for your home project, it’s a great idea to write down a list of questions to discuss with each prospect. Some example questions to get you started include:
Which types of insurance do you carry?
Can you provide a list of references?
What is the expected timeline for this project?
How will my project be supervised?
Will you hire subcontractors for the job?
What is the best way to communicate changes?
Will you obtain all of the required building permits?
While city and state laws vary on general contractor licensing requirements, hiring an unlicensed general contractor could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines for your area.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Yes, most general contractors require a down payment for project completion. A reasonable down payment for a contractor is 10% to 25% of the total project cost, though that will vary based on project size and location. The down payment helps cover the upfront costs of materials and permits and helps ensure payment for the project at hand.
