"Set up for J and R Roofing to do my flat roof over my patio. Rained the first week. Jose let me know they would be here bright and early Monday and they did. Tore it apart and fixed all the rot and damage in one day. Came the next to hang all the rain gutters. Excellent work."

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

"They were doing some work at my neighbors house. I asked if they did side walks and carports. The gentleman came over and gave me a quote. When they finished next door they come over and did all my cemented areas. I highly recommend them. He was going to include my wooden deck and small back porch. I told him my front porch/deck was OK but he could do the back one."

"Ryan and his team repaired a playhouse and rebuilt a sandbox frame for me. They were very innovative in finding a substitute material to replace the playhouse siding. The original siding was made of a construction material no longer available. They found a wonderful substitute that actually looks better than the original. Ryan provided me with a detailed estimate of materials and labor before the job. They did a great job on both projects. I will use Ryan again."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Installing an ornamental or decorative porch column takes around three to five hours. Structural columns take longer because your pro has to install a jack to hold up the roof while switching the column out. If there's any structural damage, it can add several days to the timeline to repair the damage.

When deciding whether to use nails or screws for framing, the specific needs of the project must be taken into account. Nails have long been the go-to option for framing due to their affordability, ease of installation, and ability to withstand shear forces. They are perfect for structural framing projects where fast assembly is essential. In contrast, screws offer exceptional holding power and are particularly useful in situations requiring increased strength and resistance to pull-out forces. For projects that prioritize accuracy and long-lasting quality, screws may be the preferred option, though nails remain a dependable and efficient choice.

You should avoid drilling or cutting into load-bearing beams because removing material will weaken it and increase the risk of structural damage or even collapse. If you do need to drill into a load-bearing beam, speak with a structural engineer first to discuss where it’s safest to drill and the width and depth of the bit that’s safe to use.

Professionals ensure precise alignment and durability, critical for structural integrity.

There are a few easy ways to locate a wall stud without a stud finder. First, try knocking on the wall with your knuckles. Most parts of the wall will sound hollow, but when you tap over a stud, it will sound more solid. Alternatively, since studs are spaced 16 or 24 inches apart, you can measure those distances from a corner of the room, which will always have a stud.
