"He was extremely nice and was considerate of my property (he wrote booties over his shoes which was much appreciated). He did a great job of putting together my bed frame and night stand. This was a great first experience with Angi. I would not hesitate to hire this handyman in the future."

Small jobs welcome

"Chance did a fabulous job. He was on the project for two days grading, installing new sod and even edged the lawn for us. He worked hard, non-stop and did not call the job complete until he verified with us that we were totally satisfied with the work. We actually had people stop while he working and gather his information and set a time for an estimate on their own property. We had several estimates and Chance came in much lower - outstanding value. He has an amazing personality and is a sincere pleasure to work with. We felt very comfortable with Chance the moment he came to the door and felt he was trustworthy, honest and very down to earth. I will be hiring Chance for some additional projects we have to get done. I highly recommend - true professional."

Handyman Services questions, answered by experts

While a handyperson will do the odd small job for your home, a maintenance person is responsible for conducting regular inspections and repairs. Maintenance people may come in to do small fixes and diagnose any issues you might be facing, but may not have all the same technical abilities as a handyperson.

A handyperson is the professional term used to describe professional fixers who can tackle a wide range of general home repairs. Some pros may prefer to use the term handyworker, handyman, or handywoman, so we recommend politely asking your pro how they would like you to identify them during the project.

Tipping contractors, builders, or general contractors is not customary or expected. Unlike many service professions where tipping is built into the payment structure, construction professionals typically charge a full rate for their services. However, you may choose to tip a worker for exceptional service, such as if they go above and beyond, stay late to meet a deadline, or work on a holiday weekend. Before offering a tip, it's a good idea to ask about the company's policy, as some prohibit their employees from accepting gratuities. If you want to show your appreciation for a job well done without giving a cash tip, consider writing a positive online review or offering to serve as a reference for potential new customers.

Using a pro guarantees correct tools and expertise, preventing potential household mishaps.

In most states, handypeople do not need to be licensed to perform simple home repair tasks and smaller jobs. When projects exceed specific cost amounts, however, ranging from $500 in California to $50,000 in other states, some municipalities consider them to be contractors, meaning they need to be licensed. To learn if your handyperson should be licensed to work on your job, contact your local governing body or state contractors’ licensing board before starting any work.
