"I can’t say enough about Ryan Stegent Plumbing!!! As with any home service, one expects courtesy and care for one’s property. From the first contact to project completion, Ryan was a consummate professional. Ryan and I were in continuous communication related to the job. He was very responsive to questions and flexible to my schedule. When he got to my house, he had everything he needed to do the job and did exactly what I asked him to do. No negotiating an easier path. I really appreciated that. When all was said and done, Ryan had done a superb, professional job despite the heat in the attic (over 120 deg F). If one can do a professional job under difficult conditions, I’d trust him to do any work on my house. I would hire this guy in a second for any future plumbing job. Oh, it was also a nice touch that he charged what he said he would."

"My good friend was offshore onboard a research vessel conducting oceanographic research. He received word from his HOA that his water hadbeen turned off due to a large leak outside his house. He contacted me to see about getting it repaired and having his water turned on. I called Action Plumbing and not only did they promptly schedule an appointment, but were happy to work with me on my friend's behalf. They even agreed to bill my friend and have him submit payment upon his return. Great job Action Plumbing!

"Danny was the perfect professional and gentlemen. His crew was cautious and made sure the wood floors and carpet were protected from all the workmen, and made sure my dog didnt get out. His crewmen were trustworthy when I had to leave my home, they made sure everything was cleaned up and locked when they left for the day. Danny had a great selection of Tile and some great ideas for my shower. Thank you Payless Plumbing for a job well done and for a beautiful shower."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A two-way cleanout can help if there’s already a clog, but the best strategy to prevent one is by not rinsing grease, oil, or fat down your drains, not flushing or rinsing coffee grounds or egg shells down your drains, flushing only human waste and toilet paper (so no diapers, period products, bathroom wipes, or paper towels), and using drain guards on all of your drains.

The most common cause of a clogged sump pump is natural debris buildup. As water enters the sump pit, it can carry small pieces of debris that build up over time, or the debris can get caught in the filter. If you forget to cover the pit after cleaning the sump pump and pit, debris can also collect in the pit. Corrosion on the metal discharge pipe can also clog the pump. Additionally, if your pipes freeze, it can prevent water from draining properly and cause a clog.

Pouring drain cleaner down a vent pipe isn’t recommended. First of all, unlike a clog in a sink or bath caused by such material as soap scum build-up, toothpaste, and hair, clogs in a vent pipe are likely the result of debris from trees or even an animal stuck in the pipe. Drain cleaners won’t be able to eat through this kind of material. The cleaner will only become clogged in the vent with the debris, causing even more problems.

Baking soda and vinegar aren’t just great for making a volcano for your kid’s science project. You can also pour this dynamic duo down your shower drain to dissolve hair clogs. If that doesn’t do the trick, you can step it up with a commercial liquid drain cleaner.

For disposal clogs with standing water, use a sink plunger and place it over the garbage disposal drain. Push the sink plunger up and down the drain about six to eight times before lifting. If the sink drains, the clogged food particles are dislodged from the drain. If there’s still standing water, repeat the steps until the standing water clears out.
