"Mr. Martinez did a great job cleaning the exterior windows of our two story home. He contacted me promptly, arrived on time both to scope and bid and later to carry out the project. He handled removing and replacing screens with care. The cleaning was thorough, by hand (no power washer) and held to budget. Thanks!"

"They measured the door and we went to Home Depot to buy a pre-assembled replacement door and hardware.  They removed the old door, fixed some minor rot damage and installed the new door with new trim.  I would have given an "A" except they failed to put any support under the sill on the new door.  I didn't notice this until later when I stood on the sill and it flexed.  I cut a 1x4 to fit and installed it under the sill myself.

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Yes, and they do it exceptionally well. Heated roof cables have two purposes: melting snow and preventing ice buildup. Ice damming happens when ice forms on the roof (usually where the roof meets the gutter) and melts stubbornly slowly, causing moisture to enter the roof itself and, therefore, the home.

It is a bad idea to try to walk on a roof with snow on it. In fact, you should stay off your roof all year long, even when it is dry and sunny outside. There are too many things that can go wrong, and one misstep can cause serious injury or even death.

Rather, if you need to get something done on your roof, call in a pro. They have the right experience and know-how to get things done safely on a snowy roof, including snow removal.

Ice dam removal costs anywhere from $650 to $2,000, with most people paying about $1,200 for this service. The price you pay will depend on a few factors, including the removal method. If your pro uses salt or tablets to get rid of the ice dams, you might only pay $200 to $300. But if they use steam, your costs could increase to $800 to $1,200.

Some commercial services use sand when clearing ice, but that’s to add instant traction, not to melt the ice. While you can scatter kitty litter, sand, or similar substances on steps, paths, or porches to improve safety during icy conditions, they won’t help melt hardened ice. Rely on salt or other de-icing methods to fully melt away stubborn ice.

Yes, but it works best with lightweight snowblowers, the single-stage models or electric versions. Also, you need to have a rubberized intake edge on the ground and preferably rubberized auger paddles, not a metal version. Otherwise you may chip or damage the surface as you work. When it doubt, let the snow lie.

You can also use a snow blower on leveled gravel, but only if you carefully adjust the intake height so it doesn’t kick up the gravel and turn it into flying missiles.
