"I was on the market for a security system and this one seemed easy enough to install.......went through the process and some of the window sensors were not working. I called Customer Support who was very friendly and we went through the entire process again...this time other window sensors did not work. This went on for a week or so...then the door senors stopped working....than the motion sensor stopped working...at no time in over a month did I have a fully operational security system. As I was about to return the system I was told they have "new" sensors and they just realized they received a bad batch and are working with another company.....Gave it a try....and same issue returned....some sensors worked....some didn't. I finally returned the system and stopped getting emails.....only to find that they were still billing my credit card even after I returned the equipment. Very nice people and very understanding.....unfortunately their product is not up to par. While we do have a large home, it's an open concept and the sensors that weren't working were no more than 15ft away from the base. The previous owners of my house had a wireless system with no issues at all.....I'm going to be using that company going forward."

Installing tinting on your own home windows is possible, but not recommended. It’s very easy to make mistakes that leave visible bubbles or imperfections in the protective coating. Applying window security film yourself is possible, but we don’t recommend it. This task is simple in theory, but getting the product to sit on your windows evenly and without bubbles underneath is challenging for DIYers who lack the necessary experience and tools. You might save money on labor by applying it yourself, but you might also end up with a film that doesn’t look appealing, prompting you to start over and spend the money on a professional installation anyway. Plus, most window film manufacturers will void your warranty if you install the product yourself.

It depends on the light. If you have a privacy film installed, someone outside of your home would not be able to see inside during the day. During the evening, however, if you have lights on inside of your home, those outside will be able to see inside as the light is greater outside than inside.

Replacing a window frame will improve your home’s energy efficiency if the old frame is cracked or damaged in a way that allows unconditioned air from the outside into your living space or if you upgrade to a more energy-efficient window frame material. Aluminum is the least energy-efficient window frame material, followed by vinyl and wood. Fiberglass and composite frames are the most energy-efficient.

You can easily and cheaply use tin foil or cardboard to black out your windows. Save a pretty penny by cutting either material to the size of your windows and taping it to the window. This is one of the easiest and most budget-friendly blackout solutions, but it definitely isn’t the most aesthetically friendly.
