"Jackson Heating & Air, located in Jackson, Tennessee, was called on 10/04/2012 for a 'winter checkup' of our HVAC heating unit after some work on our neighborhood's gas pipelines had shut off our service for a few hours.  The utility crew came to relight pilot lights and do a general service check on our gas appliances and found that our heater would fire up, but would not fully come on line.  I was encouraged to call our servicer for assistance.  I was pleased when I was scheduled for a next day appointment with Jackson Heating & Air.  The technician that came to our home was on time, professional, knowledgeable and friendly.  He checked out several things that could have been the cause of our unit not fully coming on.  Afterwards, he got into the unit itself and, unfortunately, found two small dead birds that had apparently come down our 'flue' chimney -- probably trying to find a nesting spot and couldn't get back up the 20+ foot tall chimney, and was caught in the revolving fan assembly.  After our intial shock of this discovery, I got a plastic bag for the two birds and the technician carefully removed them from the fan unit.  He checked the assembly and all connections for any damage.  Since the assembly was seized prior to the removal of the birds, I chose to have another assembly installed.  My unit is still under warranty so our cost did not include the replacement price of the unit.  The technician took the fan assembly unit out and left to get a new replacement.  He was gone maybe 20 minutes, no longer.  He installed the assembly, checked everything again inside the unit before closing it up, came into our living areas and made sure that heat was entering through all of the registers (our unit is in our basement).  Everything was taken care of in less than 2 hours.  This company is number 1 with our household!  This company is professional yet friendly.  All technicians are professionally trained, drug tested and criminal background checked.  They wear shoe covers to protect your flooring, and have friendly personalities -- no vulgar attitudes.  They treat your home as your home and treat you with respect.  This company has an updated, very user friendly website, monthly specials and printable service coupons.  They offer several membership programs that are very affordable -- and in today's economy that is a plus for anyone on a tight budget from elderly fixed incomes to growing families. I cannot recommend this company enough!  We have used this company last year and will continue to use Jackson Heating & Air for our HVAC servicing needs!

"Mr. Ferrell first connected his computer to my computer via internet and worked for quite a few hours trying to determine what exactly was wrong. The next day he continued working from his computer for several hours. He determined he would have to have my desktop tower to complete the repair. He and my son met in Huntsville to exchange the tower. He then cleaned up a lot of what was wrong and reloaded Windows 10. He deleted the D: drive which had way too much memory allotted to it. The tower was returned and I plugged it all back together and it is working better than it did when I first purchased it. I would use him again and I recommend him highly to anyone needing computer updating and/or repair. His work is warrantied and he is very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

It’s critical to use the right size AC for your space and not go too small or too big. If you purchase an undersized unit, it won’t properly cool your house, and it has to work harder to reach the optimal temperature. This will eventually wear your unit out. An oversized unit can spell trouble because it will turn off and on more frequently, which also wears out your AC unit. An oversized unit also causes humidity in the home.

While many states do not have specific licensing requirements for HVAC companies, your local city or county might. It's always a good idea to check local requirements online and use a tool like Angi’s contractor license lookup to confirm that the company you’re considering is licensed. Regardless of licensing, you should always ensure the company you hire is fully insured to avoid potential lawsuits if a technician is injured on your property. Additionally, it is recommended to check if the company holds third-party certifications, such as North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or R-410A certification, which qualifies them to work with HVAC refrigerants.

There are several steps you can take to prevent your AC drain from clogging. This includes cleaning the drain line at least every three months, changing the filter every one to three months, and getting your AC serviced annually. Also, if any problems arise with your AC, hire an HVAC technician to deal with them ASAP.

Yes. It's normal for the AC compressor to cycle on and off intermittently in dry mode as it maintains the desired humidity level. The compressor cycles to prevent over-dehumidification and to maintain a comfortable indoor environment. This cycling behavior ensures efficient operation and optimal humidity control, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the dry mode function in your AC system.

While your AC unit may still run even if its capacitor is going bad, doing so takes a lot more energy, so it can drive up your electric bill and cause further damage to your AC unit’s parts. If you suspect a bad capacitor, it’s important to have a professional diagnose and fix the problem before you continue to run your AC.
