"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"After getting estimates from various companies, some even 3 times our final bill, we had heard almost every way that our house could be sided. Brandon was one of the two that was willing to remove the old bee infested wood siding and do the job right. Other home advisor "pros" wanted to leave the insect infested wood and go right over it with vinyl. S&S also gave us a deal on gutters and since ours were not getting the job done it made sense to do it. Again a very good price after we called around for a comparison. Since S&S is having a very busy year our job got rescheduled a few times but communication letting us know what was going on was pretty consistent. Also we were flexible as it wasn't a rush job so no big deal at all. Once work began they were here each day. Generally the work was done well with only a few minor issues. We did have some torn screens from when they were ripping off the old siding and nails dragged across as well as a cut from when they were cutting the wrap for the house. Brandon had them repaired after we pointed out the damage. The gutters were installed in a few hours, but were not sealed at the corners so they leaked fairly heavily. Again as soon as the issue was pointed out within a week or so they came out to fix the job. There are two reasons I cannot give five stars. First the way the job site, our property, was left once they decided it was finished wasn't up to par with the rest of the service. They left holes dug in the ground from ladders, various metal parts, trash and scraps in our flower beds, dumped gutter crud on our deck and left cigarette butts scattered all around. Second the fact that the workers did not bring the issues they had to come back for to Brandon's attention that we then had to point out as needing to be fixed leaves us with a uneasy feeling about what are the things we didn't notice. If these mistakes were not mentioned what else is there we don't know about. I think this is a good company that will do good work for you as long as you make sure to keep an eye out for issues along the way, if you see something let them know and they will take care of it."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Composite siding has excellent insulative properties and one of the highest R-values of siding materials available. Its R-value is 2 to 4; compare that to vinyl, wood, and fiber cement—all of which have R-values under 1. You can boost your siding’s R-value by installing a layer of foam insulation.

No matter what types of metal siding you are cleaning, you should be able to clean them using the same processes you use for aluminum siding. Steel siding and aluminum siding both need cleaning about once per year. You can clean metal siding or aluminum siding without a pressure washer or with one.

The clapboard exposure, also called the reveal, refers to the amount of clapboard visible in the siding. Clapboards always overlap slightly, but some overlap more than others. The exposure is the vertical measurement of the board that remains visible as the clapboard is installed.

When repairing clapboard siding, it’s important that you match the exposure of your current clapboards. You may want to take a measurement of the specific exposure on your siding for reference in repairs.

Siding is one of your home’s first lines of defense against extreme weather. If you fail to repair or replace your damaged siding, your home is exposed to wind, snow, and rain—all of which can cause structural damage. Repairing your home’s structure will be much more costly and be a much bigger headache than simply keeping your siding in tip-top shape, so don’t delay—fix your siding ASAP.

Wood siding requires that air can circulate behind it and that water can drain away if necessary. Your home needs a water-restrictive barrier underneath furring strips to achieve the air and water gap.
