"Enrico did an absolutely fabulous job. Had to tear out our old deck and fully replace with new. He was punctual, dependable, a very steady, hard worker. It rained 2 of the days and he worked right thru the rain, just put raingear on and continued working. I can't say enough about his knowledge of his craft. You can tell he enjoyed what he did and it showed in his work. I would highly recommend him for any home remodeling project."

"Marlon is very personable and works very diligently. He did an excellent job repairing and restaining our extensive wrap-around deck. He also refinished some door trim around our garage, again doing an excellent job."

"Deck Dudes far exceeded the expectations I had envisioned for our deck project. Deck Dudes provided honest advice along with great options when we consulted with them, and then gave us a very fair and accurate quote. We have 3 large decks and we ended up replacing the decking and joists on one them and refinishing the other two. I am very happy with the work they did, the time it took them to do the work, and I couldn't be more pleased with the finished project."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Whether composite decking is better than wood depends on your priorities, especially regarding budget and maintenance. Composite decking offers superior longevity (30 to 50 years) and durability, and it is low-maintenance, requiring no sanding, staining, or sealing. In contrast, wood decks typically last 10 to 30 years and need refinishing every few years. While the upfront cost of composite is higher than wood, the reduced maintenance can lead to long-term savings. If a lower initial cost is the primary factor, wood is the more affordable choice.

Most building codes require that railing spindles (also known as balusters) on decks or stairs be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard is often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' which means a sphere with a 4-inch diameter should not be able to pass through the opening between balusters. This rule is in place to prevent small children and pets from slipping through the railing. For the same reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck or floor surface should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is essential to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, particularly for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. However, their use is regulated by local building codes, and they may not be permitted in areas prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes. Always consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.

It's okay to walk on a newly painted deck after about four to six hours as long as the weather has been dry. Be sure to wait at least 24 hours before you place any outdoor furniture or grills on a freshly painted deck, though.

No, termites do not eat Trex or any other composite decking brand. Termites eat cellulose, of which composite decking like Trex contains very little compared to natural wood. This feature can help justify the higher Trex decking costs if you live in an area with abundant termites.
