When my RCA TV stopped working I looked up who did RCA repair work from RCA web site and got York Electronic Services' name and number. I called them and specifically asked what they charged for an in-home TV repair, as my TV was too big to bring in. The lady told me it would cost $65 for the visit but that would be applied to the repair cost if we had it repaired. After asking my wife, we agreed to have them come out. The repairman, Dave (the service manager) arrived on time. He said this model TV had a history of fuses blowing out because RCA put the wrong fuse in. He took the back off and replaced the fuse, which had indeed blown. He put the back of the TV back on and helped my wife put the TV back on its shelf. He then gave her a $163.23 bill, charging $3.99 for the fuse, a $60 trip fee, a $90 tech fee and $9.24 in tax. I was not home during this. My wife complained about the bill and asked about the $65 charge we had been initially told about. Dave said that he waived the $65 fee. My wife then asked what the $60 fee was for. He said it was due to the rising fuel costs and they just started charging it (we live 6 miles from their store). My wife mentioned that this was not what was told to me. Dave then said that the waiving of the $65 fee was only for when the TV was brought in. This made no sense and had nothing to do with the $60 trip fee. My wife asked Dave if we could try to contact the person who originally quoted us and he said he knew her and described her as a geriatric and an old retired woman that sometimes doesn't explain things as well as she should. My wife and Dave went back and forth but Dave didn't budge. My wife paid the bill. This was a mistake, because once she signed the receipt we lost all rights with the credit card company to dispute the bill. I called YES and they wouldn't change the bill. I have complained to the Better Business Bureau and the Bureau of Consumer Protection but YES will not budge with regards to the BBB and there isn't a long enough history of complaints with YES for the BCP to do anything.
