Fast forward to Sunday January 26th. We noticed both the upstairs and downstairs of our house was not being heated properly. We called Sunday night knowing that was off peak hours but we did not want to go the night without heat. We left a message with the secretary and a tech called back within 20 minutes. When the technician called I explained to him what happened in October and that I thought it was the same part that burnt out. The first words out of his mouth in a sarcastic tone was and quot;Well, I didnt do thatand quot;. This man seemed upset that he was being paged on a Sunday night and he sounded annoyed when I was trying to explain what I thought was wrong. After diagnosing the problem over the phone, the man said he could come out that night but said how long it would take and how much it would cost like he was trying to persuade me to tell him not to come until the morning. HE TOLD US to turn off the heat overnight so it wouldnt burn out the part that needed fixed. So, we slept without heat that night.
The tech (same one as on the phone) came around 9am the following morning and seemed a lot nicer then. He fixed the part and turned the heat back on after being off all night and what do you know, 2 pipes burst and our living room and dining room were now gushing with water. These pipes burst because HE told us to turn off the heat and you think someone working for a heating/plumbing service would know that pipes freeze in the dead cold of night but I took his word for it because I thought I was listening to a professional. He replaced the part, and the broken pipes and charged $150 for everything. Im not sure if thats even a good price.
Well, wouldnt you know, we woke up this morning with no heat in our upstairs. So I am done using this company and will be calling in a family friend to help finish the job.
Issue 1: She stated the price was $80 plus parts. Fair enough. Two young men arrived shortly after and went straight to work and after about two hours emerged from the well-hole of doom, assured me that I was good to go for many years and that it was a bad valve, and handed me a bill for almost $800. So, apparently its $80 an hour per worker. So keep that in mind.
Issue 2: A few days later we lost water again, so another fellow came out. He told my husband that the well may be going dry, or that maybe the jet pump lines weren't deep enough, but that the pump was repaired. Luckily we weren't billed. BUT HE LEFT THE WELL CAP OFF!
Issue 3: I call the store in tears thinking that we are going to need to dig a new well. I asked him why they didn't check the well depth first to see if that was why we were losing water, and he said and quot;that just isn't what they do.and quot; He said that based on the repairs the guys did, even if we lost water we wouldn't have to crawl into the well house to reprime the pump. Alas, this was not the case. He also advised me to check the well depth. We did and we have about 150 of standing water (read: tons of it.)
Issue 4: One of the young men who originally came out returned to make sure the well cap was properly put back on. He also talked to me about the real issue in the well and that is that the well is really too deep for a jet pump because the pipes can only go down so far. The well really needs a submersible. So I am understandably upset that I have just blown $800 on a non-existent problem when I could have used it towards the right repair--a submersible pump.
Issue 5: I was in the living room when the young man called the store and explained to whomever that I was upset. He also told the person that and quot;since she basically wasted $800 I told her maybe we could cut her a break on a submersible.and quot; Once he got off the phone he apologized for the misdiagnosis and said he was going back to the store to see if he could talk to the boss about working with me on a new submersible. And he was never heard from again....
So there you have it...all the sad and sordid details of my experience with Wilbur Henry.
