Ann P.
Jun 2009
Mr. Willoughby, the owner of Garden's Edge, came out to meet with us regarding a stream we wanted to add to our backyard pond. He provided us with an estimate and we told him we would need him to coordinate this work with a landscaping job we had scheduled to be done at the same time. He assured us that he would do that and that he would personally be involved in this job. After paying a deposit the trouble started!! We were to have the job completed by the end of June 2008. Most days they did not show up even though we were told they would be there. Often we could not reach anyone either by phone or email. When we did we were told they were on another job but would be at our house sometime that day. No show!! Now they were impacting the beginning of our landscaping job. We put that off for a week so they could get out and do what they needed to do. At one point we were told they would absolutely be there that morning and would have the job completed that afternoon. At 2:00 they had still not arrived. We were told they would be there by 3:00. At 3:00 they still had not arrived. We were told they were on their way. They arrived a 4:50 and stayed until about 5:30. The entire team looked exhausted. Obviously, they worked all day somewhere else. Needless to say the job was not completed. Mr. Willoughby then tried to charge us an additional $500 for "moving dirt" to create the stream after telling us it would cost between $100 and $150 to do that. This was a load of dirt brought in to form the stream. After paying almost $7,000 for this job we certainly thought the labor included moving dirt and after what he put us through with constant delays and being made to feel like he was working us in rather than dedicating several days to get the job done we have refused to pay the entire $500 additional cost. Against our better judgement, we did pay a portion of that along with the balance of the original job. After all of that Mr. Willoughby refused to come out and look at problem resulting from an underground pipe connection which they dd. This resulted in a very serious situation with the pipe coming completely apart and blowing out a huge volume of water under our cement patio. He felt because we still "owed" him $250 his warranty did not apply!!! I could go on and on. Suffice it to say STAY AWAY FROM THIS CONTRACTOR!!!
