We had several contractors come out to look at what we now had on our floor and they all said everything needed to be taken up. We thought we would do this to save money since we lost our 1,000 deposit. Unfortunately the underlayment is only half off the floor at this point (it was glued). It has taken weeks to get that up. There is no way our floor will be done before our company arrives at the holidays. We have lost time and money!!
"This was the first job where I actually got nickeled and dimed literally. The tiles were cheap factory seconds reboxed and were bought by them at Costco. The tiles were warped (cupped), which gave me a lippage of the thickness of a dime in spots. The homeowners agreed to hire me based on the fact that I told them in conversation that I had gotten taken advantage of in the past and didn't do anything about it. During the installation the homeowner told me a story about a guy who would come home and put a couple tiles in a day after work and how could you make any money from that. Then what happened the next day clearly showed that their only interest was to get me to start the floor and they would take it from there. There was no security deposit, they paid for the anti fracture underpayment and my labor to put that in. Maybe being a military family they felt they needed to put on an elaborate scheme of exploitation and trickery , when all they had to do was just ask for a price to start the layout and they would take it from there."
