The cat had nasal lymphoma and she did not survive despite aggressive chemotherapy, but it was no fault of the emergency provider.
While they did ask for the payment first and up front before proceeding, none of us had any problem with that. There were permissions to be signed, which had to be taken care of for legal reasons, and all of it was presented with sympathy and the desire to leave the foster family and/or me and my husband free to mourn the dog after the procedure without further business to take care of. They did not rush us. In fact, they specifically offered to give us as much time as we wanted so that we could spend the last and parting moments with the dogs. And it was so nice and so comforting to receive a sympathy note from the staff at the clinic a few days after our little girl-dog was put down.
If you have a pet that needs immediate attention outside the clinic hours of your regular veterinarian, or if you cannot get in to see your regular veterinarian as soon as you need to, I do not think you should hesitate to take your pet to the Animal Emergency Clinic. Just be forewarned that they will be more expensive because they provide services at times when you otherwise could not get them.
