Based on a letter included with a new-home welcome package, I asked Mr. Simpson of Alan Renovations to attach a shutter that was flapping in the wind. He said that he was getting out of the handyman business, but that he would do the job being as I had his advertisement. He promised to come by within the week. He did not show, nor did he call. So, I called him again and he once again told me that he would come over and fix the shutter during the following week. He did not do so. Finally, after several weeks had passed, the shutter came completely loose and I found it in my driveway. Only luck kept it from damaging my car or a neighbor's, (I live in a townhouse) or, hurting a child as it fell. When I called Simpson to report this and complain about his no-shows and no-calls, he rather gruffly told me that he must "respectfully decline" to do the work. Now, if he had told me that in the first place, I could have hired someone else to do the job and not risked injury or property damage for several weeks. Alan Renovations has shown that they cannot be trusted to perform work as promised.
