No, you do not need a diamond blade to cut Corian®. Diamond blades are used to cut very hard materials, including concrete, brick, asphalt, and natural stone, like granite. Even though Corian® is very hard and durable, it is not actually made of stone, making a diamond blade unnecessary. A tungsten carbide triple chip grind blade works best for cutting Corian®.

Granite countertops must be sealed every 12 to 18 months, though some sealants can last for five to 10 years. You can check whether your granite countertops need sealing by applying a drop of water in an inconspicuous area and waiting 15 minutes to see if the water darkens the countertop. If it does, the countertop needs sealing; if not, you can hold off on resealing for now.

If the damage is minor, you can repair countertops without replacing them. You can also resurface a laminate countertop rather than replace it when it gets old and dingy. Countertop resurfacing is a relatively easy project, though it can be time-consuming, so you may prefer to hire a pro to do this for you.

A water-based, low- or no-VOC sealer is typically a good choice for marble countertops. Choose a sealant that is certified safe for contact with food when applying to kitchen countertops. For high-traffic areas, look for formulas that have heat-resistant and acid-resistant features.
