Customers say: Quick response

"Wow! I could not be happier with the quality of work that Faris Karaki and his crew put into our landscaping. Very professional and responsive and my mulch beds, shrubs, and hedges look amazing. I wish I had taken a 'before' photo, because the finished product was so astonishing. This is the first time we've used Karaki Landscaping, but we will definitely be using them again in the future."

"We did not know where to start with fixing a water drainage /yard grading problem so we tried Home Advisor. Did receive several good options. Selected Malco. From day one, our project was handled promptly. Bob came to view yard, an estimate received & work scheduled within a timely start date. Their entire crew was professional, friendly and hard workers who definitely took interest and pride in doing their job well. When asked to modify a small section, it was corrected quickly. They wanted to have our COMPLETE satisfaction with their work before finishing up. Believe me, They are the "pro's" you want to hire. We will have them back for future projects. Thanks Home Advisor and Thanks Malco Landscaping!!"

"Troy was fantastic to work with for this project. His estimate was spot on and he was able to explain many of the things I didn’t understand that would have made the project more complicated for me in the long run. He was very accommodating. I would highly recommend TWC."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

In addition to aloe vera and lilac, other effective humidity-reducing plants include peace lilies, Boston ferns, English ivy, spider plants, and lucky bamboo. These plants thrive in humid environments and can naturally lower moisture levels. Place them in areas prone to dampness for the best results.

As with anything you do near your foundation, you’ll want to ensure proper drainage when you plant your foundation beds. Your drainage should run downhill from the highest point against your foundation to avoid water intrusion and incurring expensive foundation repair costs.

As much as you might try to keep a healthy, nutrient-rich lawn, you still may notice signs of St. Augustine decline (SAD)—a viral disease that discolors your grass blades. St. Augustine decline looks like:

  • Discoloration in the leaves (chlorosis)—leaves appear yellow and splotchy

  • Decline in growth

  • Leaves turn black within 3 years

  • Grass appears less vibrant

  • Grass begins to thin

  • Root rot

  • Grass takes longer to recover

If you are xeriscaping a lawn from scratch, your best bet for preparing the lawn is to work with a xeriscaping specialist in your area. The most common first step to making the transformation, however, will be to remove the turfgrass from your lawn. The subsequent steps will often include amending the soil to support new plants and installing low-drip or drip irrigation systems.

Hedge plants are available in almost every size, from seedlings to fully mature, six-foot-tall shrubs. Planting smaller plants is much easier and more cost-effective. However, it can take years for the plants to reach maturity and create a full hedge. Garden centers and specialty retailers sometimes offer three to four-foot wide plants that you can simply plant next to each other for an instant full hedge.
