"Being new to the area, I could not rely on recommendations from friends and neighbors.. I read the fabulous review for K and A Handyman Services online. I sent a photo of the work to be done and received a quick response and estimate. My new home had rot under a bay window. Adam was on time, went right to work and completed the task with skill and attention to detail. He located the source of the moisture that caused the rot and cleared the obstacles in the gutter. He was a breath of fresh air-professional, skilled and polite. Do not hesitate to hire this gentleman. I have already started a list of things I will hire him to do in the future."

"Absolutely wonderful to work with, on three separate occasions we have used their services and each time we have been very pleased. They are timely, meticulous with their work, and look beyond the scope of the call/ project to ensure all is fixed just right. We have used them for a screen door / dry rot issue, 2 TVs to be mounted, a gas fireplace repair, and general handyman work. 100% recommend."

"The owner Scott Fitzgerald has been very helpful and accommodating with the changes that were made to the contract. Scott has been so helpful; and has gone above and beyond on several occasions to make sure that we get the most out of my budget. The plaster work that Blake did is beautiful; and I will definitely be going back to Fitzgerald Home Improvements in the future."

Childproofing questions, answered by experts

In many cases, you can DIY home childproofing with success. You can purchase childproofing tools like cabinet locks, outlet covers, and table-edge guards and install them easily.

However, it's best to have a professional childproofing service work on larger projects like pool safety or furniture anchoring. These safety measures can take a lot of time and effort to DIY, plus, you want to ensure the tasks are done correctly to keep your child safe.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are a safe and effective way to protect children from electrical hazards. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the outlet slots when not in use, preventing a child from inserting foreign objects. While they are the safest option available, it's important to note that few things can be considered truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug, so constant supervision around any electrical device is recommended. Tamper-resistant outlets are a much safer solution than childproofing covers, which can be removed by children and may pose a choking hazard.

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are designed to be safe for use in homes with children. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the electrical slots when not in use, which helps protect children from electric shock if they try to insert an object. While they are the safest option available and highly effective, it's important to note that few things are truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug. For this reason, it's best to use tamper-resistant outlets over less effective solutions like plastic covers, which can be removed or pose a choking hazard. Always supervise young children around any electrical outlets or devices.

Many parents, especially first-time parents, agree that professional childproofing is worth it. These professional childproofing services are trained to recognize dangerous home situations that many people would overlook until it's too late. Furthermore, professional childproofing experts have access to top-of-the-line equipment you can't purchase at most stores, providing longevity and peace of mind.

A professional childproofer will first survey your home to identify potentially dangerous locations, including stairs, cabinets, and pools. Once approved, your professional will order and install the safety equipment for you.

Some ways a childproofing professional will make your home safe include:

  • Anchoring large furniture

  • Installing safety gates

  • Installing safety latches on cabinets and drawers

  • Covering railings that could trap a child

  • Covering electrical outlets

  • Installing a swimming pool fence

  • Removing or covering electrical cords where possible
